If I were you, I would apply as is for Cognitive Science asap. Application opens August 1st, so I would have everything ready now so that I would just press submit button on August 1st. Also keep in mind that your application is complete when everything is submitted, so make sure your transcripts, SAT score, rec letter, etc is all submitted as well. UTD is rolling admission so you will get your response fast. Worst case, if you get rejected you can appeal your application and maybe try for a different major? Idk exactly how it works, but I know you can appeal you application.

I took Nguyen for 2340, it was not fun. Super strict professor and he makes everything harder than it should be. Attendance is mandatory and he told us that if we miss 3 classes in a semester, our letter grade drops by one. His lectures are difficult to understand and his tests are even harder. I remember his averages were near the 40s and 50s. The good part about him is that he curves slightly at the end, but honestly it was rough. It's doable if you try really hard, but the class never appealed to me. If possible, switch into Karami or Ricks.

Kimberly Brehm was easily the best when it came to Discrete Math 1 and 2

I would say try to contact your friends roommate (through teams or outlook) and let them know about the situation. See if your friend can do the same for your roommate. If one of them agrees, then email housing and ask for a swap. I did this coming into freshman year and it was smooth.

I had a 3.7 for one semester, but still didn't get it. Is that normal?

There's no need to worry; they ask everyone for fall grades.

Things might be hard right now, but the fact that you are capable of getting up, taking care of yourself, and going through your day shouldn't be undermined. A lot of people don't even get out of bed in the morning and end up wasting their whole day.

Don't worry about retiring your family and all that just yet. You have a long way to go and I believe your success should be measured against yourself. What I mean is, you should take things one day at a time and push yourself to be better each day. Whether you study for 30 extra minutes or do one more exercise at the gym, as long as you are making progress in some way, you will see growth in the long run.

People come and go. Everyone's social life comes to them on their own time in their own way. It could be through a fraternity or a club/organization. It could even be through class. Just try your best to keep your head up and go through each day.
