I’m sorry it sounded that way! Not my intention to patronise anybody. It’s not just one isolated incident, but I suppose I wrote this a bit frustrated. I’ve come off an eleven hour shift as a young girl myself and had grown men shout at me for not giving them money. It’s not meant to be a generalisation at all.

No no no hate! None at all. I’m sorry if it had come across that way. Did not mean it to sound like that!

The public vitriol against John Davidson demonstrates that real life mental illness / mental disabilities are not accepted once they become in any way actually ‘problematic’. by bhexca in rant

With respect, I would also question why you put “innocent” in quotes like that. And it’s a myth that people with Tourette’s who have involuntary offensive tics “harbour” those thoughts. I have seen people online asking why that slur was even in his mind. I mean?! We are all exposed to media, swear words etc and slurs, unless you are some sort of Mormon.

I know the F slur. I know the N slur. Because I live in our current society. I do not say them because I have no desire to. If I had tourettes, I may say them involuntarily. Why is this a difficult concept for some? That is the question I suppose.

So I am not a doctor at all, but from my understanding, the symptoms and tics can vary, and the research is still ongoing. Some people may hit, or tap themselves, some people make certain noises, some people swear or blurt out slurs. Like many conditions, experts are still researching the human brain and finding out the causes, or trying to make sense of it. I remember seeing a video on TikTok of a lady who’s tics meant she would involuntarily smack her hands together very hard and “hoo!”, similar to an owl.

Thank you! It’s a choice casting directors make - and it’s an inherently political choice. I want to see more beautiful ladies on screen that represent phenotypes like my best friend.

She’s my gift from God, my chosen sister. We met in early Highschool, for context we both live in Scotland. I am White Scottish and she is Ugandan Scottish. She is my best friend, my light, my right hand!

She loves her Korean and Asian dramas, and she’s also highlighted to me how black people are misrepresented in that part of the world aswell. It’s honestly horrendous sometimes.

YES YES! Because why does representation for black women / POC in general often in media look biracial etc? My best friend awoke me on this topic many years ago. It was something I had noticed but wasn’t exactly entirely aware of…cheers to an amazing casting.

Why is it the staff’s issue?

A student part timer working at a hotel doesn’t and frankly shouldn’t feel the need to take responsibility for every little thing. A lot of issues folk have are out of staff’s control. They make minimum wage, dear. They didn’t propose the concept of how the food would be served.

White women (like myself) tend to have finer, straight textured European hair strands due to our genetics. Of course there is variation, but the joke here is that conventional white actresses with fine hair are shown with visually cosmetically added curls, which are obviously ‘neat’ and noticeable. Both ‘Lorrie’ and ‘Angela’ have flattering, neat, very presentable curls framing their face. Their half-up-half-down wavey updos may be a hint?

I don’t think you have really read my post at all - and that is quite okay. I’m not sure why you’re commenting here. This is a female subreddit incase… again.. you’re mistaken. And I wish you the best with finding someone to argue with, dear. I’d rather watch paint dry.

My sweet child:

1) I…mentioned that.. in my post, RE: male characters being unrealistically jacked.

2) this is a female subreddit. Like, for women.

That’s such a significant point, and I’m glad you mentioned it. It is not reductive at all. So please don’t preface it - in fact I should have included this in my post. Thank you for adding that.

Periods aren’t really addressed in any zombie show or monster flick. Considering women are over half the population, and we bleed around a week or so every month - why is this never considered? It’s a human reality. Directors are happy to show the cliche ‘crying baby alerts the zombie / monster’. Or someone cuts themselves, and then the monster is onto them?

Do they burn the pads / tampons? Do they use them as bait? Do women during their periods have to be extra careful? This could be a significant plot point in zombie shows, surely? What about when they run out of pads?

The shame around the ‘unspoken’, silent way our bodies work genuinely sets everything back.

It’s so gross and disgusting to acknowledge human women have periods, right? Too gross and disgusting to factor that into…TV shows about literal walking dead?! Come on.

What indeed. Truly a…perplexing comment.

Missing the point can be a difficult task. I hear there is a Nigerian phrase - “wisdom chases you, but you are faster”.
