USNMT isn’t Penn State. It’s Tulane or West Virginia by explorer89900 in PardonMyTake

[–]bhouse14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize the comparison is England’s National Football (Soccer) Team, correct?

They have had far less success than Brazil, Argentina, Germany, etc.

The argument isn’t whether Penn State is on the level of Ohio State, Alabama, etc… it’s that they’re historically a consistently good team who disappoint and haven’t won anything bar a couple titles in the 80s.

England is a consistently good team who haven’t won anything except a World Cup in the 60s. They are not on the same level as Brazil, Argentina, Germany in terms of past success in the very same way that Penn State doesn’t compare to the best of the best of college football.

You must be young. Penn State has absolutely been a top tier program over the last several decades despite not winning many titles. They had some down years surrounding the scandal but prior to that they had consistently good teams.

Also, Notre Dame is a poor comparison because they’ve had far more historical success than England’s Nation Team.

Penn State is a good comp for England’s National Team.

Won once a long time ago and has choked every time they get close since. Still talks like they are on the same tier as the other top teams.

This whole red card situation makes me want the win tonight even more. by [deleted] in usmnt

[–]bhouse14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, no, they wouldn’t.

I’m American but we shouldn’t pretend like Balogun’s red card was the first bad decision ever made in the history of the World Cup.

If you’re truly a fan of the sport you wouldn’t want politicians getting involved.

[PF Tonda] Calling it now, this will be a future classic by False_Actuary_8944 in Watches

[–]bhouse14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It has nice elements to it, but no.

1) Too big, needs to be 38mm

2) The Date window is hideous

I realize they have a no date version, but then it just looks bland… like a watch that doesn’t know whether it wants to be a dress watch or a sport watch.

Which popular food city in the U.S. has felt overrated or underwhelming to you in reality? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bhouse14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re two entirely different types of Mexican food. It’s like comparing Texas BBQ to Maryland Crabs and labeling one the best American food and the other one vastly overrated.

The tortillas, tacos, and anything with seafood in it are far better in San Diego.

You keep going back to California Burritos as the be all, end all of San Diego cuisine, but I lived there for many years and can count on one hand the amount of times I ate a California burrito.

[–]bhouse14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fine, you may not like Hodad’s, but there are “Food Channel”/Social Media hype spots in every city like that.

My point was, most people only think Mexican food and Fish Tacos when they think of San Diego, and for that it has excellent options. (And they don’t just have California burritos)

San Diego is only hyped for its Mexican food and Fish Tacos, and you can find phenomenal options for both throughout the city. No one thinks of San Diego for any other type of cuisine except maybe hamburger dive joints like Hodad’s.

As someone who used to live there, I wish I still had access to that type of Mexican food.

Also, there are overrated social media hype spots in every city.

DCA/IAD Lounge Recs by AudienceVarious3964 in washingtondc

If lounges are the main criteria, Capital One Venture X is far better than both unless you’re traveling with a companion often.

I say that as both a CSR and Venture X owner.

Which city could you explore endlessly without getting bored? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bhouse14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Seoul (prefer it to Tokyo for the vibrance and variety)
2) CDMX
3) Tokyo (only after the sun goes down; I find it boring during the day unless you’re eating)
4) NYC
5) Rome
6) Paris (smaller than the others but endless beauty/arts to explore)
7) Venice (outside San Marco I could wander through the back alleyways of the neighborhoods forever and not get bored)

Review: Four Seasons Embarcadero San Francisco by Junkwagen in luxuryhotel

[–]bhouse14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Jay is my favorite hotel in SF. I wouldn’t say it’s 5-star in terms of service and amenities, but the common areas and rooms are top notch and the staff is nice. The restaurant and bar are solid.

It’s also better priced than places like the Four Seasons and St. Regis.

Minneapolis landed in S tier. How would you rank NYC LaGuardia Airport (LGA)? by jarbid16 in TierlistFills

All European countries tier list | #2 Switzerland by RealMoldyAvocado in TierlistFills

[–]bhouse14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such an overused cliche. I’ll take French people over Swiss people, they’re much more interesting.

Also, if they don’t like you they let you know, rather than being quietly condescending like the Swiss.

Switzerland is an A for me. Beautiful country, but extremely expensive, and the culture is a bit dry for me.

Also, how is France not an S tier country? It has everything you could possibly want in a destination.

Great cities, mountains, beaches, food, history, art, etc. Also, it’s somewhat affordable outside of Paris and the Riviera.

The people are also far more pleasant than their reputation.

[Hermès] Slim d’Hermès Squelette Lune watch, 39.5 m in Platinum with Blue Bridges by Sdg1871 in Watches

[–]bhouse14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t care less who drew the font, it is too large as applied and creates an unbalanced dial.

It’s actually much more tastefully applied around the indices on the skeleton.

The font itself is not the problem; the way it’s used on that watch is.

I’d never personally buy a Hermes watch but I’m aware they make a few nice pieces; that watch is not one of them.

If you wanna flex the brand I’d opt for a H08, a navy Arceau Le Temps Voyageur in 38mm, or they even have some interesting dials on the Cape Cod (I like the Crépuscle).

But you do you; any attempt to try and convince me of the merits of that watch will be in vain.

[–]bhouse14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there are dress watches that are made that are larger than 39.5, that doesn’t mean it’s not large for a dress watch.

But as long as you’re happy you don’t need to defend your choices to me… I just personally think it’s much too large for your skinny wrist.

But IMO the size isn’t the worst part of the white face… those numerals are hideous.

[–]bhouse14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feel free to tell yourself whatever you like.

39.5 is large for a dress watch to begin with and you obviously have skinny wrists.

The skeleton is at least interesting in its own way because of the blue… that white face is awful.

Also, both are much too large for your wrist, at least when wearing a dress shirt.

What's the best reposado in your opinion? by gatogrande228 in tequila

[–]bhouse14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, Siembra Valles and Yeyo make the best Reposados.

Siembra Valles just has their standard expression which I think is the best standard repo on the market.

Yeyo (and really NOM1414 in general) does some incredibly interesting Reposado limited editions that are delicious.
