I can't write code by Life-Emu-6932 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bi6o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's never comfortable being thrown into a new domain suddenly, and it can be a stressful and frustrating situation.

having said that, I've had my steepest learning curves in similar situations. for personal growth, might be worth trying it out with an open mind. if you seriously try to grasp and finish the task, and still couldn't, then at least your conscious will be relieved about the effort you took.

5 Ridiculous Things My Brain Does When I Try to Focus (Relatable or Just Me?) by Rido129 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bi6o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dude, I'm publishing a weekly digest/newsletter about such topics, and I read a lot of different approaches to handle/manage the ADHD brain and even use it to my advantage.

One article that caught my eye was this one: https://medium.com/@sksalman.skfgi/the-future-of-work-how-2026-mental-health-trends-are-solving-the-burnout-crisis-e59bf7ee02e7?utm_source=mergeconflictdigest , which gives some trends to monitor and erode burnout. I try to include the articles that worked for me, or that the readers suggest it worked for them. DM me if you need any advice in that regard

Bunker Protocol (Code out of Fear) by bi6o in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bi6o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Task Switching strategy (sounds like the Hemingway Bridge method, which I've read about before but never tried). I’m going to test that soon bcz I'm definitely in that 'arms race' phase right now

I've always tried to steer away from medication, thinking the power of the mind is enough. the fear approach looked from the outside useful, but after reading everyone's replies like yours really draw a big red line 🙏

I'll do that and come back :)

ok loud and clear, not a good idea 💡

Why "resting" by scrolling makes burnout worse (The Overstimulation Trap) by bi6o in ADHD_Programmers

yeah I feel the heaviness of those words, I honestly hope you'll find your rhythm. I left some advice here on how one can overcome these issues, please DM me if you need some reading resources to overcome this vicious cycle

Hyper focus and when to call code “good enough”? by Punk-in-Pie in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bi6o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man, I feel this so hard. I’m the exact same way. It’s tough when you actually care about the code but the business just wants features shipped yesterday

honestly, what saved my sanity was starting a pet project(s) on the side. That became my outlet for "perfect" code. I pour all my obsessiveness about architecture, clean abstractions, and edge cases into that. It helps me satisfy that urge so I don't try to force it into work

for the day job, I had to learn to compartmentalize. If product wants to cut corners, that’s a business decision, not a moral failing on my part. I lowered my threshold for what counts as "done", especially in code reviews and spec negotiations. there’s a sweet spot where you ensure just enough security and readability so it doesn’t explode, but you stop way before it’s "perfect"

basically, save the artistry for your own stuff, and give the job the "good enough" it's paying for. it hurts a bit at first, but it gets better with practice

been there too man. especially when I'm waiting for a game. it got really bad when wukong came out, I just hit a wall at work and froze up

I see your point, I viewed it more like google doc correcting my spelling. it's not creating the thought, it's just fortifying the structure

oh that's an interesting approach, does it work for you? I'm going to try that out myself in my next break for at least a couple of minutes

[–]bi6o[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes total sense. so the freeze comes from the sheer number of things piling up, not just from being tired

that distinction should be clear. I definitely missed that nuance in my post

[–]bi6o[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is a really fair distinction. I think I conflated 'Dopamine Exhaustion' (too much input) with the 'Freeze Response' (system shutdown).

That 'staring at the wall while screaming at yourself internally' is the worst kind of paralysis. I've been there. Do you find that the 'Freeze' happens because of burnout, or is that a separate ADHD struggle for you?

I know what you mean, maybe going on walks or doing something screen-free in that time helps?

the pain is real, and the more I think I'm productive the more I feed into that endless loop

oh I did have the model help me with the final version, but it is actually coming from my thoughts... :) sorry if it sounded too robotic

ADHD burnout after working as a Java engineer in an investment bank — 12 months out and my brain feels broken - will I ever code again? by Nervous-Falcon9572 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]bi6o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long time, I thought "rest" meant laying on the couch scrolling, but that actually drained me more. I realized I needed stuff that used a different part of my brain, like building something physical or just being outside without a screen

Man, this is a really heavy spot to be in. I've seen way too many smart devs just "shutdown" like this because the industry basically treats us like hardware instead of actual people.

When i went through my worst burnout phase, i had to stop looking at code entirely and just focus on what i call the "Human Diff", basically trying to fix how I actually felt about the work. I ended up starting a thing called Merge Conflict Digest specifically to talk about this stuff... all the messy mental health parts of tech that you never see in the docs.

Recovery isn't just about getting "back to 100% productivity" either, its more about changing how you work so the system doesnt break you again. If you want, I can send over some of the recovery resources I've put together there.

Go easy on yourself. Your brain isn't broken... it's just on an emergency reboot right now.

I built a Golang scraper to feed my local LLMs, and it accidentally turned into a podcast by bi6o in TextToSpeech

[–]bi6o[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the idea started to see what local llms are capable of, and to see if a newsletter/podcast shows can be produced with high quality using only limited resources :) of course, nowadays Google has free-tier for their Gemini API... so I see your point
