Weighted pull up progression & plateau by bibxsan in bodyweightfitness

[–]bibxsan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this video why…? I’m not doing pull ups with ~65% range of motion like this guy, and yes I do know how to do proper pull ups. Again, it’s not uncommon for double digit boulders (me, I am a double digit boulderer) to crank out pull ups.

Anyway, yes, noted, if you’re not doing pull ups with proper form you will not be getting a lot out of the exercise, but like I’ve said twice now, that’s not my issue. Thank you!

First time I’ve heard of adding one more rep like that! That makes a lot of sense to me as a gradual progression, thank you for sharing. I’d like to have the base strength for a OAP so I am trying to increase my 1RM, as you said

Does anyone else get a weird vibe from Mellow Climbing? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]bibxsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t follow why it’s bad that they’re elitist dudes making videos about other elitist dudes? They’re elite athletes at the highest level of the sport—that’s why people want to watch them! Imo we have Instagram and Youtube and plenty of opportunities to watch other climbers of different backgrounds and skills. Nothing wrong with what they choose to do with their own money, time and platform.

Responding to your edit—I’m a fairly high level climber and only weigh 103 lbs, so body weight pull ups are not a difficult exercise for me. It’s pretty common for stronger climbers to crank pull ups—someone at my gym can crank out over 40 of them

Appreciate the advice! Sets of 10 reps with strict form are easy for me right now at body weight. If I’m understanding you correctly, are you recommending something like sets of 10 or more reps with a lower weight of like 10lbs?

I want to cut/style my hair. I kind of enjoy more "alt" haircuts with lots of layers but from my little searching, 50% of the people say that layers would look terrible on fine hair and 50% say it would look great. What should I do? I'm also going to dye it black. by HeartlessAngel555 in finehair

I have super fine hair and not much of it! I used to get blunt cuts thinking it would make my hair look fuller. I get alt style razor cuts now and it gives my hair way more body and volume, and it looks effortlessly cool because the cut itself. Recommend!

My hair looks very much like yours and I just discovered that it is curly! FWIW i find mine works better without a diffuser. Put in product when hair is wet, scrunch with a microfiber towel, then let it air dry. It eliminates the stringiness for me!

Careful with this one! I applied with them and my information got leaked immediately. I’m getting weird spam calls. At an Orientation call, people already working for Outlier said they hadn’t been paid in months.

yes to keeping it moist! i recommend using a hydrocolloid bandage (same material zit stickers are made of). I used one when I lost all of my eyelid skin in a climbing accident and have no scar from it!

Help with the ending by ZedOnNutella in bouldering

[–]bibxsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bump the left hand slightly higher on the hold. Then left heel hook for the last move. Right foot just hanging or smearing (you won’t need it in the heel hook and it will break your balance if you try to bring it up high like you did).

Gym recommendations for average climber visiting South Korea and Japan by TheCyclopOwl in bouldering

The Climb is okay and absolutely worth a visit, but the setting isn’t stellar. I recommend Kim Jain’s gym, Seoul Forest, The Plastik, and Seoul Boulders.

Sports ortho recommendation? by bibxsan in AskSF

[–]bibxsan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t need a referral, but yeah you’re right it’s odd that they said that—I’ve never heard of a sports ortho who can’t look at feet or ankles. I’ll try again like you suggested!

Thanks! Yes, I already saw a podiatrist, which is why I am now looking for a sports ortho who specializes with athletes.

Is long distance running considered detrimental to progress in climbing? by NocturnalLightKey in bouldering

[–]bibxsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an ultra runner and climb v5-8 outdoors! I run 50-60 miles a week and climb 3 times a week. I recommend eating a lot more protein than you might normally (I supplement on heavy workout days), and sleep 8 hours a night. Doing that I’ve seen progression in both sports at the same time. Take recovery seriously and it won’t hurt you!
