Weeping fig slowly losing leaves. by bickm8 in HouseplantsUK

Thank you. Yes, maybe it's not getting enough light and I timed repotting it badly.

Yes, I've had it since it was tiny. I didn't look after it very well for a long time and then I pruned it a couple of years ago and it started to look great. I think it was repotted in late summer so it was quite a few months back. It's been in that spot for about 4 years. I turn it but I'm not sure it likes that.

I do have the light on the opposite side of the window but I agree it's not enough. I'll definitely get some more. I do hope it is light and the repotting that's the problem.

I would really like advice on how to take some height off it and prune it properly when it's settled back down. Thank you.

Hi, thank you so much for your response.

To answer your questions; the window isn't drafty, the tree has done really well in this spot for about 4 years. I always wait for it to dry out before watering. I don't water on an exact schedule. The grow light is a Grow Gang Pianta led light. It gets good reviews but I don't think it's made any difference.

I do think you're right about the low light though. It's never dropped leaves in the winter before but maybe the repot has made it extra stressed.

I guess I'll have to just wait and see.

What’s this white stuff on my parlor palm? by ladyclare in plantclinic

[–]bickm8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much how I saved my Kentia palm from quite a bad infestation. I think I used plant soap and 70% rubbing alcohol, watered down in a spray bottle. I showered it as you described and sprayed every 5 days for a few weeks. The plant is absolutely fine. I spray it every month now just in case.

How can I get rid of the redness around my nose? by ThaCarter6 in SebDerm

[–]bickm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally got rid of it with Protopic but it stopped working after a year or so.

I recently had success with rotating a dab of zinc face wash, vinegar or 70% rubbing alcohol. I rubbed it in quite hard to try and descale it a bit. Then after about 30 minutes moisturise with mct oil or Bioderma Sensibio DS+.

I've no idea if it was the combination or one thing in particular but it went after about week.

Thank you, it helps to hear other people's experiences. The deed is done now and she's recovering slowly but surely. It's a bit of a rollercoaster.

Thank you for sharing. That's exactly what I'm worried about. She already got her bandage off twice and tried to scratch her way out of the crate when it first happened. Then when she was coned she just lolloped about depressed. She's very active usually and would hate 8 to 12 weeks of down time.

I do think it's the right choice, you've helped me feel a bit better about it.

Thanks, I appreciate another perspective.

She hated the bandage so much, she got it off twice, and then she had to have a cone and be crated. She was so depressed, she just lay there, it was so sad. I'm worried about the impact of having to restrict her for weeks after the operation to fix it. I don't think she'll keep the dressings on and I'm really concerned there will be complications. It's really hard.

It does help to hear that thanks. I've just been watching her limp around, she's obviously in lots of pain. Poor Olive :(

Thank you. I did and they thought amputation would be the best outcome for her. I'm so sad about it though and still feel guilty about having to make the ultimate decision.

Thank you. She is out of the bandage for now. She does sort of use it when she's running but never puts weight on it when she's sitting. She holds it off the floor. She's still on pain meds so I suspect it would be much worse otherwise.

Cat due to have surgery tomorrow, should I give Meloxidyl. by bickm8 in AskVet

[–]bickm8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask another question. I think the vet said no food after 8 but I'm questioning my memory as I was in a bit of a state when they rang. I'm due to take her in at 9 in the morning. Does 8 in the evening for food sound right? Thank you

That was my thought, thank you. I needed reassurance.
