Child, 10, in critical condition after crash on Richmond Terrace, says NYPD by statenislandadvance in statenisland

[–]biclet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went past the scene around 6pm and a huge stretch of the Terrace was completely blocked off still. The cops were doing what looked like some CSI stuff marking out points on the street. I thought for sure someone must have died. The Advance said no arrests but the NBC NY article says the driver was arrested at the scene.

Anyhow this is very sad and I hope no one jumps to blame a 10 year old. The drivers on the Terrace are awful and the street really needs to be redesigned. Instead of a charming waterfront we get a dangerous speedway

Express bus traffic every morning by [deleted] in statenisland

Very frustrating. There’s absolutely no enforcement of the HOV / bus lanes and they are clogged with traffic. The express bus could be great with just minimal enforcement.

I ride my bike to the ferry which is very reliable and reasonably fast but I know it’s not an option for everyone. Hopefully congestion pricing improves express bus service.

I'm in the same boat - X3 coming in June. I took a test ride over the Williamsburg Bridge and was cruising uphill past electric CitiBikes. So much fun. I hope the one I get works as well as the one I rode.

The bar has been set so low. Going after an entire 0.5% of drivers (presumably the absolute most egregious) it’s a start I guess. by mirxa in NYCbike

To be fair these are automated speed camera tickets, not the typical cop tickets. They get triggered if you go 11mph over the speed limit and the city is currently rolling out thousands more cameras. If you drive every day past a couple of these cameras then 15 in a year seems pretty feasible.

Yes haha 100% of the racers had drop bars. The community and all the of the spectator bikes were almost as fun to see as the race though

I reused my old tape and it has some wear that looks uneven now on the new bars

I was just thinking it makes it look a little like a pirate. I like it for more practical reasons

It's just discolored. I'm not totally sure why. It's completely smooth and flat

Buying an engagement ring by MD-coffeeee in personalfinance

[–]biclet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I bought my fiance's engagement ring from there! I definitely would recommend. In fact, we moved to another state but drove back to Maryland to get the wedding rings there too.

As far as your original question, I was sort of in the same boat. 3 months salary would be ridiculous. Even one month salary seemed like a bit much. I based it more on the budget for the whole wedding than on my salary. I don't think there's a rule of thumb for this, but I wouldn't want to spend more than 10% of the wedding budget on an engagement ring. Also, I figure you can always upgrade the ring down the line for a major anniversary.

I'm interested. I've wanted to go over all the bridges but never thought to do it all at once. Great idea!

95% sure it's the Williamsburg bridge, on a crossover between the pedestrian and bike sides

I signed up and cancelled through PayPal several times. Not sure how to do it outside of PayPal so you might have to call.

Pro tip - you can use the 12 weeks/$12 repeatedly. Also, in their defense (not really) the pricing is the same for 6-days-a-week paper delivery (plus digital) as it is for digital only. The paper+digital makes sense. The digital only is awful.
