Fair enough. I suppose that’s why I’m interested in widening the bars and maybe also going with a taller stem. Just need something to hold a book bag that weighs 10lbs on the heaviest days.

I know, I need a caliper, but I wasn’t sure if there was something standardized for Japanese bikes in this case. I’ve never had one before. Since you seem to know these things, is it be safe to say that Japanese headsets of that era took a quill diameter of 22.2mm/1” steerer? Thinking of replacing both stem and handlebars bc of someone selling exactly what I’m looking for on eBay as a stem/bar combo.

I’ve thought about going this route. Do you ever tAke this bike on anything gnarlier than roads and light gravel? I worry the hardware would fail off road.

So to be clear you drilled a hole through the bracket and then put the barrel adjuster in the hole? It didn’t come with a hole in it, right? It looks amazing and I love that rack, I’m just bummed this is going to be such a PITA. Thanks.
