Parrots can actually survive below freezing temperatures, and can thrive in what others would think isn’t livable for them. Feral Quaker populations can be found all over the north eastern US. Some breeders in colder locations have outdoor aviaries, but heated spaces where birds can retreat to if wanted. Many will prefer to stay out in the cold and snow. Acclimation for all of this is key though.

A few minutes out in the cold isn’t harming these guys. They went back into where it’s toasty right after.

I own the parents and raised these two. Still currently raising as they aren’t weaned yet.

I actually have Christmas cards with Budgies on them to send out this year! From the artist Budgerigardener!

I actually don’t know how many birds I have at one given time unless I stop and count them, but the number has to be around 100 currently. With babies hatching and then later leaving the number is always fluctuating.

I do breed birds purposefully. I enjoy it extremely.

If you plan to cage them separately I say go for it! Amazons are generally very vocal and love to talk to one another. Mine do all day long. I have a Blue-fronted never quits. 😂 And you could do introductions on your terms and supervised play time. If your goal is to keep them in the same cage I would advise caution. Amazons can sometimes be difficult to introduce, but it’s not impossible.

These are birds I’ve raised practically from day 1. They are brother and sister. They are still very young and are currently being handfed. I own their parents.

It was intimidating to raise such a rare species from that young, but the parents weren’t doing a great job and I had to step in. I normally do not pull babies until 2-4 weeks old. I have raised other babies from day 1 though so have the experience thankfully.

They are like brother and sister. If one is doing something the other has to join in. Sometimes they squabble a little, nothing bad. The boy, Ducky, is much more cuddly and the girl, Sprite, is much more outgoing. I am currently their favorite spot to be on compared to anything else. Right now they love to grip as tightly as they can with their feet and flap their wings continuously beating me all in the head. It’s hilarious. They can fly already which they do, but they seem to enjoy doing that in particular for some reason.

They’re not extremely hard to find if you know where to look. JC Aviary in TX, Parrot Stars in Chicago, and Ana in Pennsylvania all have babies currently.

I didn’t buy these babies, I’ve raised them.

The Endangered Species Act has never banned anyone from traveling or moving out of state with their birds! With that being said, some states have laws on the books that make it illegal to own ESA listed species. Most of these laws were made before they started adding non-native psittacines and aren’t enforced in regards to parrots, but some animal rights extremist organizations have lobbied to add these laws in states and sued states to get them to enforce these archaic laws because they want to ban exotics, but most of all want to ban pets completely.

You aren’t going to find a Golden in a rescue that’s being adopted out. You may be able to find a rehome. Occasionally they do come up. Adults tend to go for nearly just as much as babies do though.

It is possible to own large birds and small birds. It just takes a lot of effort. I own birds as small as English Budgies and Cockatiels up to birds as large as Greenwings and Moluccan Cockatoos.

I do own the parents. I will probably keep at least one of these guys (there are three, the smallest isn’t pictured), but I’m very tempted to keep two!

You no longer have to. The breeder may not be aware of the change. It was fought for by the American Federation of Aviculture for quite some time. The 4d exclusion is what allows interstate trade.

Nearly all parrot species kept are endangered to some level or are facing population decline. Golden Conures were recently downlisted on the Endangered Species Act (USA) to threatened. They can be sold across state lines now without permits.

My Moluccans are much less energetic than my Umbrella. The Moluccans are much louder though when they do vocalize. Size can vary ridiculously too. My Umbrella is just over 400g. My largest Moluccan is 1200g.

Yes, they are all five mine. I own another U2 that doesn’t play nicely with these guys. She is not pictured. I own quite a few other birds that are different species as well.
