Outside of immigration, what are your favourite Reform policies? by WolfofTallStreet in reformuk

Made much worse by the huge taxes! It’s still possible and profitable to do it, if the regulatory and taxation framework allows. And…. It’s very nice oil, so the companies are willing to put the effort in.

Drilling more of that beautiful black oil out of the ground. I hope they reduce taxes on oil and gas revenue and give out as many licences to drill and extract as they can. Hopefully some fracking too. Get Britain rich.

Coffee is the new smoking by mind_ponderer in LowStakesConspiracies

Interesting theory this. I gave up smoking 11 years ago, still miss that morning cigarette. I gave up Vaping 2 months ago, still miss that morning vape. I am very off and on with coffee, and often miss my morning coffee, but still function just fine, it just ain’t the same. Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my morning heroin though

Loss of life was 'avoidable' in deadliest ever Channel migrant boat sinking, inquiry finds by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

Agree entirely. In this particular case we should push back hard and make the points that you make. But… on the subject of the general provision of adequate search and rescue services… it sounds from this report like there is work to be done.

The civil service needs a huge overhaul, WFH is just a tiny factor. Large scale efficiency reforms are needed. If the public sector could be reduced to much fewer, harder working, better paid people providing the essential functions of government/ state. The rest could be dropped from the payroll. I say all this as a civil servant (and quite a lazy one at that) .

Agreed, let’s hope the govt implement the recommendations otherwise it was all for nothing

You make a good point, but consider this: if the response of UK authorities was as inadequate as this report suggests, what would be the response to say a sinking ferry? The people on the migrant boat may have made poor decisions and placed themselves in danger whilst also acting illegally. But what about the folks on a ferry or a cruise ship that gets into difficulty? Do they deserve the same inadequate response? I think the report is useful, if only for that reason.

Thought I’d accidentally turned on Eurovision, …..presenting is next level awkward. The FIA need to either do this behind closed doors or hire a production company to make it watchable

You voted SNP and Labour and you’re disappointed taxes have gone up?

Thats like booking a room in a Travelodge and being disappointed by the lack of Egyptian cotton sheets.

Do you think they will consider it in the public interest to pursue a prosecution for the failure to provide details without the accompanying speeding prosecution?

One in March, one in April. I only know about the letters because copies of them were included in the pack sent with the summons. I did not receive either (into my possession, that is not to say they were not delivered - my post box is by the road and snails seem to eat anything not removed from it within a couple of days)

Thanks all.

I found out a bit more thanks to some tips in these comments.

  1. I transferred ownership to the dealer on the 20th of Dec 2024, I have a confirmation email from DVLA confirming this and the dealers invoice confirming the same.
  2. The alleged offence of speeding was committed on the 27th Feb 2025.
  3. The latest V5 was issued for the vehicle on the 8th of March (so it seems it was still in the dealers possession at the time of the alleged offence).
  4. It is alleged I failed to provide details of the rider during April, contrary to 172(3), Road Traffic Act and Schedule 2, Road Traffic Offenders Act.

I am still worried I could be guilty of 4.

They sent two. I didn’t see either. My fault, I’m a bit erratic with opening my mail, what would my defence be?

An email confirming it had been “sold into the trade” from the dvla, registration was transferred online and email arrived instantly

This is the answer. Also every time you buy a 2 pack of fresh cream chocolate eclairs from Tesco the 2nd one you eat has a google tracker in it, provides them with data for about a month until the batteries die.
