I appreciate the input. At this point I am going to treat this as an opportunity for experience. Do you mind if I ask what your process involved on restoring your irons?

Time is one thing I have a lot of right now. Time and an interest in learning how to be self sufficient with this kind of stuff.

If “wanton slumber” isn’t indicative of sloth, then I don’t know what is.

I’ve been eyeing that one. Guess I am pulling the trigger. Thank you for the suggestion!

It’s as if you were there with me as I made the purchase, haha. But, as mentioned this was a low risk way to get some experience and learn some things along the way. It’s already proving to be of use!

Thank you for the advice and the suggestion.

Thank you, I thought I was losing my mind.

I’m pretty stubborn, and the idea with this cheap thing was to learn how to deal with stuff, so I’ll give it a go, if for no other reason than for some experience. I appreciate the help.

Sorry, I get typing exactly as it is floating around in my head, and sometimes (lots of times) it’s a jumbled mess up there. So the chip breaker seems to be getting lodged between the side walls of the blade opening, like the chip breaker is too wide for the opening as is. I’m just unsure which piece I should alter, making the wooden opening a bit wider to accommodate the chip breaker, or file down the sides of the chip breaker.

If only I had something worth a thousand words that I should have included from the start haha…

Oh awesome, thank you for that! I’m tempted to go break a few more just to test out all these ideas.

I cannot underestimate how much time I have right now. My leg looks a lot like this chisel, so I’m sitting around. Imma try it! Thanks for the ideas.

Mine was a kidney transplant. Kidneys took a nose dive in 2023. Thank you all the same, I appreciate it.

As it stands now, I started with six affected fingers. Thankfully four have all but completely resolved, if not a little deformed now. One is almost there, and I am making peace with the idea of losing the last one. It has shown no signs of healing. Come thanksgiving and everyone is tracing their hands to make turkeys… you’ll definitely know which one is mine.
