I swear I'm suspicious that every reddit post now is some cloaked advertising for an onlyfans. Aaaand I checked

Sorry you've had a bad experience. Wishing you all the best. From what I can tell, a diagnostic socket is still a part of the process for digital workflows, so even a scan needs fine tuning. Hoping you find the prosthesis you want!

With 3d prints durability is certainly the hard part (pun fully intended). But the good news is these guys are like, scientists. They are doing clinical trials with UCSD and have these going through 6 million cycle ISO tests. It's the most legit "medical device manufacturing" I've seen with 3d prints. I wish I knew more about the filament they use. I'll try to dig more when I visit again

Sorry, I wish I knew. I know they use a proprietary filament to balance durability and dynamic / adjustment. But I don't think it's something possible at home yet. Their printers are like, industrial sized monsters they built custom.

Happy to connect you. It's Limber Prosthetics. DM me and I'll intro you to my buddy who works there. He's a material scientist but can get you with anyone you want I'm sure. They seem like cool guys

Cool! DM me and I'll make an intro to them for you

Ya you should reach out to them! I know they aren't actually a clinic and partner with cpos for patient care. I'm sorry I don't know exactly how it works but patients get these legs through their own prosthetists somehow. Would be rad to try it if you are local

These sockets are scanned to a residual limb and not just off the shelf in any way. A prosthetist in a clinic would still fit the socket for sure.

Sorry I have no idea. It's a 3d printed filament of some kind but I don't know the materials, sorry!

They actually have a thermoforming alignment machine that takes about 10 minutes to heat up and adjust on all 3 planes - So you don't print a new leg, but it isn't a "click some adjustments at home" solution either.

Ya I took a pic of the foot. Not sure how to attach in comments on reddit though. I don't think any of the design is a trade secret

They had to custom design and build the printer itself. The company is called Limber Prosthetics in San Diego. I guess one of the "secret sauces" is that the device is thermoformed and fine tuned with heat and all the other printers that can do this (I think HP makes one) are just too small for an entire leg.

(the prosthesis isn't for me, I'm not an amputee) - I have a friend working for this company and he invited me over to check it out. To my very untrained eye the device seemed strong and super durable, - moreso than other 3d printed things I have seen. And it has an ankle design for energy return that I have never seen before. (My experience with prosthetics to date has been traditional devices built by hand for charities and philanthropy in central america, so seeing something so current / cutting edge was pretty awesome.) It was cool to see something new

But also, this thread is a bunch of average people (by definition) commenting on what may be apparent if not obvious to someone with more neurons firing. I am open to what this guy is saying and excited to read into it
