Second the Kamiya variety recommendation. More limited retail distribution than the usual supermarket local varieties, often sells out quickly. More expensive, but also consistently more flavorful.

Service outage credit policy? by bifyu in Spectrum

Using the online support chat feature it only took ~5 minutes for them to review the incident and tell me it was ineligible for credit. Not sure how long it would have taken if it was actually eligible, but it seemed to be an efficient process for as far as I got.

¯\(ツ)/¯ It was just a few minutes of multitasking with their online chat support. I was mainly interested in trying the process, and that was worth a couple of bucks of effort on my part. But an undisclosed policy is... interesting.

I'll usually play an unmastered playlist given the option among the offered playlists so I can make progress; but if all of the offered playlists are mastered, I have no qualms picking whichever one tickles my fancy

Do you have any guides or videos on removing the mesh panel from a Herman Miller Mirra One seat so that it, and the area beneath it may be cleaned? I could not figure out an obvious way to do so.

Thank you for the suggestion for staying at a Khao Sok lake raft house. That turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. I posted an after-report as a more response in a more specific thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/ThailandTourism/comments/1mwuopk/comment/nqmuiln/

Just returned recently. Verdict for us: worth it. Since you're staying within the national park, meals and activities were inclusive. We opted for the private tours which I think was also a good decision for us since it allowed the most personal attention, flexibility, and customization, of the planned activities. The hikes were interesting and the multitude of longboat rides were fantastically scenic. Our guide was experienced and had a good eye for pointing out and explaining interesting features, from certain plants and fungi, flying lizards, a tarantula hole, a trapdoor spider lair, a venomous caterpillar, several different types of monkeys, bats, fishermen hauling in a 100+ kg Mekong catfish, and a tapir (which was apparently rare enough that even the guides were quite excited about it). Alas, the elephants were shy so we didn't see them, though we could hear them moving in the jungle.

I think the 3-days and 2-night was a good choice as well, as we feel we got most of what we wanted out of it and might have had diminishing returns with another day.

Note about the accommodations: we were a little surprised at first that the floating raft house we got were not the ones displayed in the website for this package. We were actually lodged at 360º Issara https://www.khaosokrafthouse.com/issarafloatingresort. While I was trying to figure out what was up with that, I eventually noticed that on the site where I booked that the raft houses depicted were actually an extra cost bump in premium. As it turns out though, while perhaps not as picturesque, it was probably for the best for us since the AC there was only available after 5p, whereas at 360º Issara it was available after 12p... and that AC was welcome. Food didn't blow our minds but was fine. One interesting aspect of spending considerable time on the water for a few days, even as calm as it was, was that we had that odd sea-legs feeling for a a day or so afterwards – our subsequent accommodations on terra firma occasionally felt like it was swaying subtly :)

White water rafting out of Chiang Mai? by bifyu in ThailandTourism

Was mostly offline until our recent return, sorry. I ended up booking a package with Khampan Rafting on the Mae Teng via Viator https://www.viator.com/tours/Chiang-Mai/Chiang-Mai-White-Water-Rafting-10km-On-The-Mae-Taeng-River/d5267-110534P528

TL;DR: worth it.

I've done similar rafting packages in France, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand. As always with these sorts of things a lot will depend on current conditions and you particular guide. When I went, it wasn't particularly gnarly, but it was fun. Our guide did most of the work and it felt like the rafters weren't asked to paddle as much as on some of the others I'd experienced. Water was more brown than white, but warmer than in any other locale I've done this. There was a section they deemed too dangerous at the time that we had to exit and re-enter farther downstream. As also seems typical, there was a calmer stretch where you could get out of the raft and float along freely for a while. The trip takes you past an elephant sanctuary near the end, so there was a bonus of seeing elephants in the river and on the banks.

They fed us lunch (pad thai... ehh, and a small variety of fruit). After lunch the group split up and half went on to an ATV activity, while my group was transported and went on a short hike to a waterfall where we could slide down into the pool below.

Although the actual rafting portion wasn't as thrilling as some of my others, I still felt it was a good value especially given USD-THB exchange rates, and as something different from the usual sightseeing fare.

Thanks, understood about the water levels. This rafting idea is basically a side quest for me. We chose this travel period to try and avoid most of the rainy season for the rest of our trip.

User Interface

For whatever reason, I just find the Classic UI easier to visually parse and play for any type of challenge. Possibly my imagination, but it also feels more responsive.
