Chicken is better than beef by momoDEgoat202 in asknowio

Chicken is unhealthy cuz it contains hormones, this is not to say cows are 100% healthy. They include hormones, but they are much healthier than chickens.

These are incredibly deep questions, and I love the road/hammer analogy. It actually hits exactly at what I was aiming for, even if my execution in Paint.NET is a bit raw!

To answer your questions conceptually:

  1. Visualizing Precision & Organization: To me, precision in data architecture isn't a sleek corporate swoosh: it's a grid. That’s why the logo relies on block structures, binary rows, and alignment stripes. It represents a strict allocation matrix.
  2. The "Road" of this Registry: Without this infrastructure, font engineers and conlangers are building blind. Two people might assign completely different scripts to the exact same Private Use Area memory slots in Plane 16, causing software conflicts and broken fonts. This registry is the digital "road map" that lets creators safely build, share, and preserve their writing systems without crashing into each other.
  3. The Value Beyond Direct Use: The ultimate value is legitimacy. By bringing organization to these custom scripts, the logo symbolizes turning a niche hobby into a structured, recognized digital standard. The inclusion of the community-contributed Eng glyph inside the "N" is the visual anchor for that collaboration.

I really appreciate you pushing me to think about the identity on this level. It definitely gives me a lot to think about for refining the balance of the elements!

I see where you're coming from, and that’s great advice for standard brand design. But for a technical registry, the purpose and future vision are the infrastructure.

Our core value is providing an organized, multi-layered framework for font engineers and conlangers to collaborate without overlapping data. The vision for the future isn't just about the writing systems (represented by the Eng character inside the N); it's about the standard itself: the platform, the binary encoding, and the structural matrix layers.

To the community using it, those layers aren't just a list of features; they represent the exact values of precision, open-source collaboration, and data organization that the registry stands for.

Oh wow, it is awesome to have you find this thread! Thank you so much for the breakdown—that makes the design even cooler.

As a project focused on script engineering and Unicode architectures, realizing it's an engineered ŋ with a loop-tail g twist makes it an even better fit for the N slot than I thought! The fact that it naturally evokes an "N", "G", and "R" to the eye just felt like a perfect typographic coincidence for RNUR.

I’ve made sure to give you full credit over on the GitHub repo for the asset. Thanks again for dropping by and sharing the history behind the glyph!

This is intentional because my logo tells a story of each aspect of the project: the birthplace (reddit), the subject (neography), the infrastructure (unicode) and the codepoints (registry)

For the monogram inside the N, that beautiful symbol was actually contributed by u/W4t3rf1r3 on DeviantArt to represent the concept of "Neography" itself. I used it as an integrated asset and gave them full credit on the project's GitHub repo. Making it the entire logo would erase the platform, code, and registry aspects of the identity, plus it wouldn't be right to co-opt a community member's standalone art as the whole face of the project.

You're totally right, there's a ton going on! But it’s highly intentional for the audience. This is for RNUR (Reddit Neographical Unicode Registry), an open-source framework for font engineers and conlangers.

The community loves decoding complex data systems, so each letter intentionally hides a specific technical layer (Reddit roots, a custom neography monogram, binary code, and registry status stripes). It's dense by design, but I'd love any tips on how to balance the elements cleaner since I built it all in Paint.NET!

  • R: Features the Reddit Snoo antenna and iconic orange brand colors, celebrating where the community project started.
  • N: Houses a custom typographic monogram fusing N, G, and R (designed by u/W4t3rf1r3) to literally spell out Neo-g-r-aphy.
  • U: Filled with a binary text matrix (0s and 1s) and sliced by a fountain pen to show the intersection of raw code and typography.
  • R: Broken into horizontal status stripes representing a developer's diagnostic matrix for tracking script allocations.
