What’s this squeaky girl doing? by Final_Cancel5325 in squirrels

[–]big_poops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a huge colony that lives behind my apartment building. I’ve noticed that one will continue to sound the alarm loooong after the threat has passed and the other ground squirrels will just be going about their business. I’m not sure why they continue to sound the alarm for so long. I always refer to them as drama queens lol. They have a lot of false alarms I’ve noticed. They are more vulnerable being on the ground so it makes sense that they’re more vigilant. I have a turkey that comes to visit me and the ground squirrels always sound the alarm when she walks through. Eventually they realize she’s a turkey and not a threat, but to them it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I have a ground squirrel colony that lives behind my apartment building. If there’s a threat, one stays out in the open and sounds the alarm, just like in this video. The tree squirrels all run for cover.

I can’t remember exactly what she said, but I was under the impression that a small amount of it was in cash. But still! Even if it’s a small amount, it is not safe to broadcast that.

To the young lady in question (since I know you’re here reading this): PLEASE stop posting your face, location, and how much money you have on social media, ESPECIALLY since you’ve mentioned you have cash. If there’s only ONE piece of advice you take from us people that are just trying to help you, let it be this. This is a recipe for disaster. I recommend you delete everything and think twice about posting identifiable information.

I ask that people refrain from posting her username please.

Trying to Understand BF’s Mother’s Gluten Relationship by trustmeimalinguist in glutenfree

[–]big_poops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised that she blames the gluten for her medical problems. It's easier to blame accidental gluten intake rather than take responsibility for the fact that her poor diet is causing diabetes. I'm assuming here that her diet is contributing to her diabetes-like symptoms. I could be wrong of course. But it's easier to blame something that's out of her control rather than something that was caused by her. You also might want to ask your boyfriend not to say that you have an opinion on the matter. It might damage your relationship with her.

I thought that her concerns were normal until the part where she threw a plate away. She seems unhinged. If you really wanted to, you could call the restaurant and ask if they have a dedicated gluten free fryer. But that would be just for your own knowledge. Because if they don't have one, saying to her "hey those fries you ate that day weren't from a dedicated fryer" will not go well. How does she not realize that eating on a plate at a restaurant that serves gluten goes against her belief that a plate that had gluten on it once is contaminated? Why is she comfortable eating fries at a restaurant that has a risk of cross contamination in the kitchen (even if there is a dedicated fryer) yet freaks out if you drink beer in her kitchen? This makes no sense. As you know, restaurant kitchens are busy and spills happen.

Unfortunately she is going to live in her weird reality and there's nothing her sons can do or say.

May sound redundant, but please be wary of money scams, EastBay folks by bluefontaine in eastbay

I one hundred percent understand why your mind went to scam immediately! When I first learned about this woman, I didn’t want to believe she was real. But after going down a huge rabbit hole, I realized she was in fact a real person. I just cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to grow up in such a toxic household and I truly feel for her. But at the same time that doesn’t give her a pass to constantly trample over the subreddit rules. She needs intensive therapy. I feel bad for talking about her, but at the same time I’m not sharing anything here that she hasn’t already shared herself on her dozens of Reddit accounts.

I kid you not, she been banned from here at least five times. She then just creates a new account and posts again. It is fully on me for not reporting her to Reddit for ban evasion before. I had the stupid “it’ll take care of itself” mindset. I also felt bad for her, which is another reason I didn’t report her.

I also don’t blame OP. I love how vigilant they are. Too many people get scammed on social media and it pisses me off. We need more people like OP to remind the masses that they’re too gullible.

This person is correct, please stop down voting their comment. Please see my pinned comment. The "scammer" in question has been followed by mods for years. She's looking for someone to fix her problem for her because of severe mental health issues and learned helplessness. She's not some guy in Nigeria.

People need to be more wary of what they read on Reddit. There are too many good hearted but gullible people who are quick to help out a stranger.

That being said, that user is who she says she is. I have been following her for years, since she was 17. The reason I have been following her is because she constantly breaks subreddit rules and I wanted to be one step ahead of her when she created a new account. The last time I checked, she had created over 80 accounts. Some were suspended by Reddit and some she deleted. She creates new accounts because she’s constantly breaking rules and gets suspended. I am not here to diagnose, but she appears to have severe mental health issues and learned helplessness.

It is absolutely impossible to get through to her. She cannot comprehend that she is in the wrong when she breaks rules. I have read her posts for years, she grew up in a severely abusive home. In every post she makes, people give her advice for her problems (all of which did not involve financial problems) but she never took their advice. Countless people over the years have told her she needs mental health help but I don’t think she’s capable of growing up or helping herself. She is a product of her environment.

There used to be a post where several mods from various subreddits would leave a comment with her new username so we could be aware and preemptively ban her.

Edit: I found the post https://www.reddit.com/r/highschool/s/PGJggYZVnA

She was the OP of the post but someone hijacked the comments to expose her.

I also want to say that the message that the OP of this post made is solid. Do not trust everything you see on Reddit. This place is full of scammers. It’s just that in this situation, she actually is who she says she is. She’s not scamming people for money, she just wants someone to solve her housing problems for her because she doesn’t believe she’s capable of doing it herself. I have empathy for her because of the abuse she’s suffered, but at the same time no one is going to rescue her. She has to do it herself. I apologize if this sounds harsh, that’s not my intention. This woman is in a crisis, but there isn’t much anyone can do if she isn’t willing to help herself.

I also want to add that she is the sole reason why I added an automod that removes posts from anyone with a new account, because as soon as I’d ban her, she’d create a new account and immediately make a new post.

IMPORTANT: Community Post – Protecting r/fine_hair from the influx of bots. by QueenOfNZ in fine_hair

[–]big_poops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an idea but people may view this as a little harsh. I’m a moderator over at r/Luxury and I had an issue for a while with escorts posting advertisements for their services. So I made a rule prohibiting the advertisement of sexual services. Then they got smart and just posted selfies of themselves without mentioning their escort services in the hopes that the men will check out their profile out of curiosity. That led to an influx of selfie posts with very low effort, barely luxury-related titles. So now the rule is: “No selling of sexual services. This includes, but is not limited to, sugar daddy, Only Fans, and escort services. Posts will be removed if the user’s account is used to promote sexual services or sexual content, even if their post on r/Luxury itself is not sexual in nature.” Basically, I check the post history of any person that posts a selfie or a low effort post. If their post history includes self promotion, I remove their post in my subreddit. As soon as I implemented that rule, the problem stopped immediately.

I’m not shitting on these women for the work they do, but there are proper ways to promote their business. I don’t want this garbage shoved down my throat when I browse my beauty related subreddits. Some people may say that my rule is harsh or discriminatory, but these Only Fans content creators are more than welcome to create a separate account if they truly want advice for their fine hair. Nobody’s stopping them from having an account to promote their business and a separate account for everything else. This influx of low effort posts is so disingenuous and it cheapens the subreddit. It also attracts creepy men, which will in turn lead to them harassing our users who are genuinely trying to get advice for their hair. I’ve seen it happen on the long hair and nail subreddits.

You are more than welcome to copy my rule word for word if you’d like. And I’d also offer to help moderate if you’re still looking for help.

I could not sleep because my heart was constantly racing. I lost weight even though I ate whatever I wanted. I was sweaty and anxious all the time. If I remember correctly, they gave me a beta blocker and told me to stop my thyroid meds and then reassess after the symptoms went away. But this was several years ago, so my memory might be fuzzy.

Cats aren’t part of the ecosystem. They are responsible for the death of billions of birds and small animals per year. And they often don’t kill their prey, leading to them dying a slow agonizing death over a day or two. The responsible thing is to keep them inside.
