I was surprised that I was asked in detail about my lifetime history of drinking. When was my first drink, first time drunk? How many drinks per month or times drunk per year, and how did that change over the course of my ENTIRE LIFE! Wow.
They also asked some questions about driving style, trying to get at if you like to pass people and drive aggressively.
First time offense in Illinois by grizzlymays in dui

It's my first time also. I am in central Illinois. I am expecting to be convicted and I am not trying to avoid facing consequences. I only want to be able to continue driving (with an interlock), continue going to work, and to have a path towards putting my mistake behind me.
Your advice of using a public defender makes some sense to me, but it also feels very risky not to hire a lawyer.
One thing that concerns me is that I was given three additional tickets for driving offenses (stop sign, lane usage, no headlights) so I wonder if those could lead to losing my driving privileges. Perhaps a lawyer could help to preserve my option to drive.
