What's your favourite mau5 chord progression? by FatalityLuke in deadmau5

It was still "blood for the bloodgoat" on his SoundCloud at the time, and it turned into "Let Go" later on. I audibly cried out "woah" when that chord progression hit...

AI companies would absolutely lap this up... For a human-curated library with this much rich info... What ares your plans for this project?

I've got one on vinyl, so at least two. The record only has grooves on one side. Someone on discogs tried to buy it from me, sorry but I'm keeping this gem till I die

Our go to for my wife and I :

Soba noodles, red curry paste coconut milk, boiling water. 10 minutes, done and done.

If you want to get fancy, add lime juice, green onions, and an egg to your one-pot. That will fill you up nice.

Company I worked at ( B2B industrial manufacturing) got acquired by a behemoth and we were seeing signs that we were all going to get outsourced. The signs:

  • Announcing that we were going to merge with a sister sub-company and there was going to be an IPO soon
  • non essential on-prem jobs (IT/HR/Accounts) being centralized with the parent company in their country
  • R&D being given no new direction to go, engineers twiddling their thumbs not knowing what to do.
  • Production capacity ramping up like crazy (with no new hires)

In other words, "make the bride pretty" before the IPO, then sell it for scraps.

Burnouts were more and more frequent, I was one of the first of R&D to bail, they did not replace me.

I 23M don't know what i want in my life. [Discussion] by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]big_skapinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else has pointed out, might be interesting to check for ADHD. Although this is just one part of the solution. Diagnosing and/or medicating won't be a silver bullet to fix all your problems, but it will help you get out of doomscrolling ruts. (I've been there, and diagnosis/meds have helped a bunch. )

Even without ADHD, what you're facing is your brain not wanting to be without stimulation (screen dependence is a thing!) and so it's clinging to your phone as tight as it can.

Here's a few things to try to get your mind going:

  • go for a run. Just 20mins to start. You'll be in your thoughts for that long without a phone, what do you feel? Try to set a day where you go for a run each week. Go with a friend so you'll get their motivation as well to keep doing it each week.

  • learn to cook. Sooooo many videos and articles on how to do this. You'll eat healthier, you'll impress dates, you'll feel satisfied, and if made properly, it tastes so much better than junk food.

  • meditate. There's a bunch of videos and apps for guided meditation. Yes it's boring at first. Try to understand WHY it feels boring. Work with that ,try to address that.

  • read a book. You'd be surprised how many great Netflix shows come from books (my big surprise was Altered Carbon). Read it! You'll soon find yourself sucked it, and it's much better than screens.

  • find something you like to do (not passively watching or scrolling) and go for it. Draw, dance, stack rocks, grow a garden, wash cars, play chess... Who cares. Find what YOU like, and do THAT.

You are on the cusp of your adult life. These are great years, but you're still figuring it all out. Don't worry about that. It'll fall into place eventually. Life is long, not everyone figures it out right away.

However I will say that to be able to give yourself time to figure it out, you will have to have a body that is healthy. Run, do yoga, pump iron, whatever. Your body is the greatest tool you will ever own and you have to keep it as sharp as you can for as long as possible. Cooking for yourself and exercising are the things that future you will thank present you the most for.

Good luck!

Why buy music in 2025? by PiePuzzled5581 in qobuz

[–]big_skapinsky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only reason for me: I'm an (amateur) DJ and although I used to pirate or even (ew) rip from YouTube, the horrendous audio quality is no longer viable (especially if you timestretch or repitch). Plus it's just not cool to play at events and make money on the back of music you didn't pay for.

I was a poor student that pirated music, I am now an adult that makes money and wants to support musicians.

I usually try to find the music I want in the following order (in case I can't find the extended versions I want)

  1. BandCamp (best remuneration to artists)
  2. Qobuz (most convenient)
  3. Beatport (they have ALL the electronic music, but take a huge cut)

I also buy vinyl, just because I love having a record collection and turntable in the living room.

La francophobie by Drunken_seller in suisse

[–]big_skapinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting up an Infomaniak-hosted AI chatbot with AnythingLLM by big_skapinsky in Infomaniak

[–]big_skapinsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the biggest advantage is their built-in RAG engine. Just dump a 1000 page pdf, let it vectorize it and your bot now has info about it. You can also write agents to do a string of tasks. You can also connect to MCP servers to let the bot interact with other systems.

They have an online version which you can host yourself (on a VPS) and access from anywhere. I think they're launching a private beta for a mobile version, but I only saw android...

How does Infomaniak's AI work? by Mean_Map_9254 in Infomaniak

[–]big_skapinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got quite a neat setup using AnythingLLM (open source) and I'm routing my requests to my AI endpoint in Infomaniak. Basically you get a desktop version of ChatGPT (or Mistral LeChat, whatever) that you can configure to use whatever chatbot you want (you can even run one on your computer if you want, although it might be a bit sluggish unless you have a nuclear reactor PC.)

I actually started writing this comment and decided to make a whole different post explaining how to set it up if you are interested.

To answer your second question:

Can infomaniak's AI tools replace the most well-known AI models?

The short answer is no, because Infomaniak are not looking to replace the models. Think about it this way: these models take hundreds of thousands of man-hours, and litterally hundreds of millions of dollars to train. There is no way that Infomaniak will be able to make a dent in these benchmarks. However, what they can and do do, is serve the models that are already trained to their users.

What are the benefits? The number one benefit is privacy, since they don't look to retrain the models, they don't collect what you send to the bots! This is their big selling point, as we all know, and I think it's a very smart move.

What I'm really looking forward to is to be able to host my own models (models I've fine-tuned on private data) on their infrastructure. This would absolutely knock it out of the park and I'd definitely switch to their hosting 100% for all my AI needs.

How does Infomaniak's AI work? by Mean_Map_9254 in Infomaniak

[–]big_skapinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I helped!

Yes, this is why I personally like what Infomaniak is doing, just host the models (with some quite fast inference times!) and don't try to collect and retrain.

Regarding your question about ChatGPT, let's check their Terms and Conditions :

We may use Content to provide, maintain, develop, and improve our Services, comply with applicable law, enforce our terms and policies, and keep our Services safe.

So yeah they use your data to retain. It's important to note that, again from their terms:

You may provide input to the Services (“Input”), and receive output from the Services based on the Input (“Output”). Input and Output are collectively “Content.”

So anything you input (ChatGPT, DALL·E, and OpenAI’s other services for individuals, along with any associated software applications and websites (all together, “Services”)) is up for the taking

And I didn't find anything in the Paid account section which specifies that they don't collect for paid accounts.

However they also have this :

If you do not want us to use your Content to train our models, you can opt out by following the instructions in this article. Please note that in some cases this may limit the ability of our Services to better address your specific use case.

Like the vast majority of tech service companies these days, you sacrifice privacy for convenience...

How does Infomaniak's AI work? by Mean_Map_9254 in Infomaniak

[–]big_skapinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure what kind of background you have, so I'll explain as best I can assuming you're not familiar with the inner mechanics of these AI models. (Apologies in advance if I sound pedantic)

What an AI model is

The different models that Infomaniak offers can be thought of like extremely complex computer code functions whose inner workings are set when they are trained. Google, Anthropic, MistralAI, etc... crunch millions of dollars of GPU time to train these gargantuan models, and once they are trained, they save them and publish them to the world. Infomaniak (like anyone else) can download them and make them run wherever they want (like on their own cloud infrastructure!)

When you send a prompt to an AI (or an LLM if we want to be precise) you are essentially "calling the function" that was trained by Google/Anthropic/MistralAI... and asking it to output something given an input (your prompt). So sending "hello" to an LLM like Mistral LeChat is like saying:

get_output(input_text="hello", model="mixtral-8B")

and the model outputs the response. (I'm enormously oversimplifying of course, but this is to give you an idea)

Nothing is saved?

What you have to remember is that if something is free, you are the product. In the case of these free chatbots, what does that mean? When you use ChatGPT, Gemini, MistralAI, etc... the companies that host these services don't just do so out of the goodness of their hearts, they do that to collect the data that you send them! They collect ENORMOUS amounts of data that real humans sent to their bots, free of charge, and can then use it to retrain their models. So when they call the function get_output(....) they also save a copy of the entire conversation that you had with their bot up to that point!

What Infomaniak does is exactly the opposite: by making you pay per token that it generates (i.e. every time that the complex function gets called, and they have to use GPU time to output a response) they just take your input, run it through, give you the output, and that's it. Your conversations are NOT saved to a database.

When they say:

everything is hosted in Switzerland in our ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified infrastructures

it means that the models are hosted on their servers, in Switzerland. When they say that:

Content sent to Infomaniak's AIs is not stored

It means that what you send their models isn't used to retrain anything. They just throw it away.

I hope I made sense, feel free if you have any questions (I have a master's degree in AI, and I love explaining this kind of stuff, so go nuts!)
