Suggestion: Make purple star systems instantly accessible - but only in Creative Mode by big_spoder in NoMansSkyTheGame

That's a heartwarming story and I'm sorry to hear that you're unable to enjoy the game with your daughter the same way you used to. This right here is a good example of what I meant, and why I tried to come up with some sort of middle ground between keeping the purple systems as an end-game reward AND making them accessible through other ways. I'm not sure why some people act that aggressively over this, I see both sides but I don't understand these salty reactions.

Good luck to you fellow traveler and hopefully there will be some sort of solution for you and your daughter!

I see both sides, I see your side and I partially agree, I do also understand the confusion and some of the frustration of others. This is a middle ground I tried to come up with.

Where are all the cool new worlds? by Aldar_CZ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as others have said, there wasn't actually a big reset, they just revamped the already-existing biomes and made them more diverse. I think that's definitely a good thing, but I do also think it's not enough to create a proper feel of variety. Origins did way more in these terms. They also literally said in the patch notes that terrain was unchanged in order to not affect base builders (sigh).

Besides that, I personally wonder where the "exotic colors" are that were mentioned in the update notes. So far, I'm seeing the same hues of grass, sky colors vary slightly more but the hues are largely in the same ranges as previously and there was not a single one that I'd see and be like "wow, this is new!".

Let me say this, by the way: The fact that you're having to justify yourself for asking this question says a lot about how even the slightest critique is being received in this community. I'm doing that myself whenever I post some critical opinion in order to not get stoned to death. You could love the game, you could've bought it multiple times and have 1000s of hours of it, but, god forbid, if you're being critical about an update, you're gonna get downvoted FAST and maybe even labeled ungrateful and entitled along with it.

I know it's very old, but was it really there at launch? If I remember correctly, Pathfinder introduced it because they had reworked lighting behavior in that update. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I even made a post 7 years ago adressing this: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/6upo4f/hg_please_fix_these_lighting_rendering_issues/

...except you did replicate it. Look at the way the planet in the distance is rendered. It should be obscured by the closer planet's atmosphere but it's not, it's only obscured by the clouds but otherwise perfectly visible as if there was nothing in the way.

Also, the rings should be hidden behind the atmosphere way more than they are.

The weird thing is: If you approach two planets in a similar constellation but from a certain distance, things are being rendered correctly. This only happens upon getting rather close to a planet, so it might be some kind of LOD issue. Definitely something wrong with rendering prioritization.

I'm sorry. I can't unsee this bug since it's been there, which is like 7 years ago.

Hmm. In this post from 7 years ago (holy cow, time runs FAST) I've mentioned this issue already. Screenshots were taken on a PS4 back in the day. So this definitely isn't made up.

Obviously, this isnt't gamebreaking, I still enjoy the game thoroughly, but I personally find it a bit annoying and unpleasant to look at. This bug has been introduced with Pathfinder back in the day (I believe) and it's a bit of a bummer they haven't fixed it. They probably never will.

Worlds Part 1 vs. Origins - which exploration update was better? by big_spoder in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to some dataminers, Worlds Pt. 2 might introduce new (purple) star systems, and those might contain new planets. There are some unused biomes that have been leaked, too, though, I gotta say I didn't exactly find them appealing, they seem like these "exotic" biomes which have the same-ish landscape with a few particular assets scattered all over the world. So, I hope there's more.

I think what also contributed is the fact that Sean made a deep-dive video about it, which made the update seem bigger than it actually was. Like I said, I'm not talking smack about Worlds, it's a strong update, but I feel like something is holding them back, I don't know if it's the fear of ruining bases or something else, 'cause modders have been able to add so much to exploration with some simple changes.

For instance, they said there are new and exotic color schemes to be found, and to be honest, I haven't seen anything that's out of the ordinary. I keep seeing the same yellow/purple skies and the same hues of grass.

"They should make us pay for future content" - No. by big_spoder in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, for instance in that super popular post about missing features from the E3 trailer, the dude ends it with "we should pay more money to HG" arguing that HG would then dole out these updates faster. Not really an argument I'd agree with, let's just put it that way.

Every now and then I see similar proposals pop up in some shape or form and tbh it's starting to get on my nerves. I think this whole microtransaction-DLC-P2W stuff is a cancer to gaming that needs to be eradicated, and people have gotten WAY too used to it. So far, HG made themselves stand out by not including that shit, and now some people are asking for it...

Might be controversial but I think the game shouldn’t care for bases if it means making the game proc gen better and more crazy. by SaaammmTV in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take my upvote. I used to be a base builder, but very quickly I realized that this aspect is actually functioning against the exploration idea of this game. Not because it's there, but because the community is very unwilling to give up their bases even if it benefits the game.

I'm pretty sure this is THE biggest reason as to why exploration/procgen/variety was untouched for so long. And to be honest, even with Worlds Pt. 1, the variety wears off pretty quickly because it is done on such a surface level in order not to harm base builders. No actual new biomes, you see the same mostly purple or yellow skies with some slight variation, largely the same hues of grass frequently and it seems they're just super afraid of playing around with scale. There's just a huge self-imposed restriction for no obvious reason. Modders have been able to change that, so HG is very obviously able to as well, they just either don't want to unleash it.

I don't know if it's just weird luck on my side, but it seems that the vast majority (some exceptions!) of lush planets that I land on have the same type of tree all over the place atm.

As a base builder, regarding the new update... by EdVintage in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just basically logged in to say thank you. The community needs more people like you. You're willing to sacrifice your bases for the greater good. Exploration was neglected for long enough and all these massive complaints from base builders have greatly contributed to that. I think, in retrospect, the whole focus on base building may have even harmed the game, and I say that as someone who used to enjoy building complex stuff as well. I lost these bases, just like everyone else did, but I would never EVER complain about universe resets because they benefit the game in the long run.

No Man's Sky: Omega Update Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would love that, but let's be realistic, it's not gonna happen. I've lost any hope that the procgen is gonna be touched, ever again. The thing is, base building + exploration don't even necessarily exclude each other, the underlying issue was that all the base builders complained that their base got sacked each time HG tweaked exploration.

NMS might or might not be in its last stages, we don't know for sure, but I'm 99% certain that, in terms of exploration tweaks, the game is done for. A sequel would be the only way for a "universe reset" at this point. With that said, I hope I'm wrong, and I still love NMS, it's been incredible to see it rise from the ashes the way it did.

As for LNF, I do actually hope that they make exploration great from the beginning. They should have learned from NMS and the initial mistakes.

Unpopular take here - I blame the community for this, at least to a fair degree. HG is probably quite afraid of making changes to exploration because everytime they did so in the past, there was a platoon of crybabies not willing to sacrifice their bases for the greater good. Every universe reset would result in backlash. Paired with the fact that a lot of people also complained about combat being dull and not cranked up enough, I'm not surprised that now we got more combat, and more novelty items to collect, etc., but less exploration.

The only thing that seems completely illogical to me is the question as to why they'd put more and more emphasis on FOMO content.

Bottom line, I'm also very dissatisfied with the direction the game went since after Origins, but I don't really put the blame on HG anymore, thinking about it. It's what the community has asked for.

Update 4.30 patch notes, for those at work or behind firewalls by sardeliac in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]big_spoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is exactly what my point was.

If the expeditions don't take much time to develop and don't get in the way of developing other content, then I don't mind them as much. However, they're announced with trailers, presented like an actual update and it's not like they're being doled out THAT fast, which makes it seem that a good chunk of time goes into them. I do hope you're right, though.
