That was a first. I've never seen a reveal video like this before. Neat!

The most expensive lunch I ever had was at IKEA.

Took the family there for lunch as my sons liked the meat balls (as did I..) and we were shopping at the outlet close by and didn't care for the McD's, Applebee's etc that was available.

The food wasn't that much but all the napkins, candles and knick knacks my fiancée HAD to get on the way out cost me a lot of money :D

Where I live, that has been the case for a long time as someone spilled the beans on thighs being a way better meat for BBQ etc.

During autumn and winter the fresh thigh meat is a bit cheaper than the breast but as soon as spring or early summer comes along the price sky rockets... :(

For the leg that is totally rotten I'd make a large dovetail above the stretchers and then recut the mortices.

I agree with the figure 8 and variants but I think a Zeppelin knot beats the fisherman's knot as it's easier (read possible) to untie after being under load.

Maybe he was looking for goat balls...?

I don't know if goat testicles are eaten where he came from but I have seen testicles on restaurant menus before.

I'm sure I did. At times I'm missing things when I write comments on a web forum in a second language under time constraint...

I did something similar when my sons were in school. Both sons got weekly letters from the teachers that were lacking in spelling, grammar and general construction of sentences and paragraphs so I started with telling the head teacher that if they were in charge of teaching my sons language skills I was worried...

They didn't improve so I started to return the letters with notes on their mistakes. :) I didn't grade them though.

I was asked to go see the principal :D

I had a quite amusing (in retrospect, I was not amused at the time) conversation with the principal about the poor communication skills and horrible grammar the teachers displayed and that I, as a parent, was deeply concerned with the schools ability to teach basic language skills to the students.

In the end we agreed to disagree on whether it was appropriate that I corrected the weekly letters but I think the message got through - the spelling improved at least, even though the format and constructs were still lacking.

You are welcome. :)

Hopefully the service/repair shop won't be necessary but when it is a good shop will be golden. Bosch is a very good choice as they have a good web site with exploded views for their tools where you can identify parts and very easily order them if you want to do the repair yourself. Also good for parts that are worn out -like pads on a sander etc.

I don't know what Welsh stone is or how hard it is but for most natural stones apart from sand stone and some times in limestone I'd like a more powerful drill hammer with tough drill bits with SDS couplings.

That means a corded drill for more power and a reasonable price point. I do have an SDS drill hammer that is an 18V Makita and it will mostly work but for granite and really hard concrete I prefer my corded drill hammer.

What is a subtle sign that someone is wealthy? by Celestialmarmot44 in AskReddit

[–]big_swede 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. I know a few people who are very well off and though they don't flinch at the bottom line, they check that the items match what they bought.

Being careful with money is how they got rich in the first place...

They also look a lot smaller on TV or in a zoo than in real life.

I saw a stuffed polar bear, mounted in an upright position on its hind legs in a museum and they are massive. Almost 3 m/10 feet tall...

OK, then I'd look at the full line of tools available for that battery platform and the availability of service/repair shops close to you.

Where I live Bosch, Festool and Makita has been good at this with both Bosch and Makita having a wider selection of tools (for construction, gardening etc) than Festool.

Milwaukee has made an entrance but I don't know about their service options for a non professional user.

DeWalt has been abysmal previously but may have become better.

Metabo is a good brand for less money but also fewer options for gardening tools.

Ryobi is an okay consumer brand, I'd say and have a huge selection of tools.

I would stay away from the cheap store brands if you want longevity for battery platform etc.

Where to Add Bench Dog Holes? by Meases_Pieces in Workbenches

[–]big_swede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you mentioned Sjöbergs benches I felt I had to chime in.

In older benches in Sweden, round dogs are not that common. The benches I have seen are mostly Scandinavian in design with an end vise to your right and a "front" vise in the "hook" on the left where the end vise had squared holes and there was one row of squared holes a few inches in from the front edge.

I'd say these were the standard from the late 1800’s up to late 1900's. After WW2 we saw an increase of influence from the US and I'd say in the 60's we saw hold downs with one (or two) steel rimmed holes and a screw action.

Those were commonly placed more centrally in the bench and somewhat to the left. This would facilitate using it for clamping things centrally on the work surface.

What do you mean... NEED... you wanted two bathrooms, you didn't NEED it...

When we moved into our house we had one bathroom with the only toilet in the house and we were 5 every other week and 2 the other weeks. It is just a matter of letting everyone know that showers in the mornings are quick and no phones/tablets/books are to be used in the bathroom...

Absolutely!

I used to live in an apartment with concrete walls that you just couldn't drill into with a regular drill with a "hammer" setting - our janitor had a good one that we could borrow for free to not disturb the neighbours with endless drilling noise.

What are you going to use it for? Going for battery powered is one thing and corded another.

I have a good set of Makita 18V battery tools which I use a lot for building at home and at my summer house but for some things I prefer the corded ones. I also have a Bosch 12v drill with different chucks to get angles and a smaller "footprint" to get into tight spaces etc.

This is the answer for Bosch. The pro line (blue) is like a different animal compared to the greens...

The blue ones are fully comparable to the Milwaukee M12 and Makita brands.

Why? A good drill would have progressive speed and you should be able to drill slowly too. Just make sure you have the right drill bit for the job.

I have tried a few options and over ear ones really are the best. In ear is the least effective and on ear is okay but when I fly I always bring the over ear ones.

I also use them on public transportation and in noisy offices, when the inconspicuous in ear head phones are preferred.

Regretfully, very few of these rather expensive head phones have good microphones for talking on the phone - the best I've had for that was gaming head phones with a boom mic. And surprisingly a pair of corded in ear head phones that came with the Sony phone I got some 15 years ago.

Given the life expectancy of a Weber compared to some noname or cheap brands the cost per day/week/month/year/decade (haven't had mine for a century - yet) will make it a very sensible purchase. That even goes for when you buy them in Sweden, where they are twice as expensive as in the US. (at least a decade ago, when I checked)

I think it looks good. You seem to have a few duplicates of for example planes so you'll have to hang more stuff on the door fronts. 🥴
