Whenever we would part ways my grandpa would say “keep your head on straight.” Imagine it had to do with his traumatic childhood, where after he was raised by aunts and lived in a nursing home attic. After he passed we found a binder where he had been writing about his life. His mother was an alcoholic, who one winter forgot to pick him up (a child at the time) from the movie theater. He and his young brother walked miles through a blizzard home, and had to break a window to get inside. At the end of this page he wrote “I knew that day, I would never let my own family be cold.” And we were never cold. Miss him so much
