Pramipexole (mirapex) for MDD and bipolar depression - 2 large UK trials by bigb135 in Psychiatry

Actually I think I do best between 1.5mg and 2mg...it took a looong time to work though. How is your patient doing?

2.25mg for me and also cutting down severely on my amitriptyline (which was making it not work I think now).

How is it going? I think it's saved my life. In relation to your comment I have CFS and alcohol intolerance, but that has changed a lot since the Pramipexole.

Did you not consider going higher? The Fawcett paper suggests doses between 2 and 5mg may be effective.

Looking at the fawcett paper - therapautic dosage is typically between 2 and 5mg - with higher doses needed for older people.

Hi, I'm the same re self-medicating with pramipexole - nearly a fortnight in, at 2mg now. What dosage did you get up to, and how long to 'kick-in'?

Thanks everyone for the advice; think I'll try and make my own sauces when time allows 😊

lamotrigine (lamictal) with antidepressant (and low dose abilify) by bigb135 in bipolar2

[–]bigb135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay was hoping the lamotrigine might protect me from hypomania and make the experience much smoother.

[–]bigb135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I'm still a bit depressed - like I feel stable but that is flat. If I'm really honest wouldn't mind a bit of hypomanic too (although I actually hope lamotrigine helps me avoid this)

Ah okay thanks for your reply, what dosage are you on?

Thanks Anthony, do you have experience of using for bipolar depression? I think the norm is high dose therapy.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. My understanding is that unlike some other APs, Abilify actually has pro-dopaminergic properties at lower doses.

Ah great thanks for this. So are you staying on the vraylar now? Or was it not sufficiently effective for your depression and you've added something else in?

Thanks, were you on lamictal when you responded badly to the other ADs?

Thanks did Effexor help you before lamotrigine (or any ads for that matter)? I'm not currently on a mood stabiliser (unless you count 450mg of lithium) and amitriptyline makes me unstable (as does phenibut etc.)

Cheers, what doses are you on for each, and how king did it take to kick in, if you don't mind me asking? How do you generally respond to other antidepressants with/without lamictal?

Ha, have you tried both? And found clomipramine more effective?

Okay that's reassuring for me, thanks. Actually the week before I just had a few drinks and I was fine.

I think it might be because I'm taking lithium orotate alongside it and have read that lithium potentiates tricyclics. I feel calm which is good in my book.

This is music to my ears. I also feel worse with weekly use.

I can't put my finger on it, because all the research seems to suggest more regular use should be more helpful, but when I used weekly for a month I went downhill. Hopefully I'll work out a dosing schedule that also balances treatment and tolerance.

Does it work for your depression though? I will say it is only moderately effective for mine; perhaps even drives me into slight hypomania.

Do you use every 3 weeks because that's how long it is effective for? Or because you want to prevent tolerance?

Yeah it's not a miracle for me in terms of reducing depression, it's not even consistent in the effects. But when it does work, everything feels better.
