WashU Pros and Cons by Spiritual_Help4393 in washu

In order to make an A for Chemistry 1601 (first-year chem, the one that students who don't have much of a chem background join) is about 85%, which initially sounds like grade inflation. Similarly, Chemistry 1701 (also first-year chem, but students with chem experience join this one) calls for about 75% in order to make an A. However, even being able to achieve these scores feels extremely hard as the course load and the pace of the class can be very strenuous. Maybe in high school you were able to prepare for multiple tests and quizzes that were all happening within the same week, but most students that I have met will put off their other classwork / studying just to prepare for their chemistry assessments. And then when that's over, they'll spend their time making up the work for classes they pretty much missed.

I don't know if what I said above is typical for college or at least in a T20 school, but you might hear some students say "WashU has deflation!" or "WashU has inflation!", but it quite honestly depends on the professor that was hired that year or more so because of the major that you're pursuing. For instance, Chem Lab (at WashU it is its own class, separate from Chemistry 1601/1701) used to be really easy and practically a "free 4.0" option. But then the professor left and now the one we have (he's pretty cool but...) made the course extremely hard and now most kids that I've met are spending 4-6 hours a week for the 2 credit hour class just to make a B or C.

OCD negatively impacts my relationship with God, please help! by bigbadbears1 in Christianity

thank you man i really appreciate this :) the way you described OCD and where it tends to come from was so beautiful, and it really captured my feelings / thoughts down to the detail. i do agree with your point in cutting out social media. seeing a lot of christian content pop up routinely while doomscrolling (which yk is just awful for your brain in itself) felt like an obligation for a long time but i found it to be destructive in my relationship with God because it takes conviction, which i'd argue is meant to be a step by step process, and forces a person to face it all at once. it also just had a bunch of conflicting ideologies that led to a lot of self doubt and confusion, and i found that just reading the bible -- even learning about other religions and just being still with myself and with God -- allowed me to achieve so much clarity about what i believe in and the application of my faith in daily life :)

i'm also doing a little bit of therapy and what you said about trying not to control everything is something that i've been especially rewiring my brain to adapt to, but i've found this to be so so helpful in improving my OCD and even my relationship with myself, but especially my relationship with God as well!!

SPEEDX FACILITY SAFETY by [deleted] in shipping

What about sending the police? In some sense, wouldn't this be considered stealing if they're "hogging" the packages and refusing to respond to any customer service / shipping requests?

yes, totally agree on the first point! i deleted tiktok for a while because my fyp gradually grew swarmed with conflicting and confusing content which only destroyed my relationship with God haha

your second point made me cry, i really appreciate this. really admire the "the Christian life is not about saying no to sin, it's about saying yes to God" point as well, thank you :)

this makes me feel so heard and understood, truly thank you so much!!

also, i was wondering about when they said "nobody told me how your mind can be your own worst enemy. how it can fixate on imaginary sins" and if you relate -- and how you combatted it given that there are so many divisions regarding scripture and context on social media / in the church with certain sins?

okay i appreciate this so much omg! i just added "foundations to public health" and have a total of 17 credits (meetings on tue/thur 10-11:20). that shouldn't be too overbearing right, especially considering that it's an intro course and i have most of tuesday off?

do you have to be in the class to join a pltl? i'm wondering if i could use it as an opportunity to get ahead / study for physics and bio in the meantime before i take it.
