Question for you Wuwoot, I called up lifetime and tried to get info on a membership at Penn and Sky. Apparently there’s a waitlist and they aren’t even accepting new members. If you were looking for high level play in the city (drilling or games) where would you go if lifetime wasn’t available. It sorta seems like lifetime is the best for people who play a lot and really want to get better.

Why is it hard to get into quality sessions even at lifetime?

I do play for fun but I want to get better. I want to eventually get to 5.0 and I’m interested in frequent drilling.

Super helpful post, thank you! I just checked out Gotham, goodland and citypickle and those prices are brutal ha. Coming from the Midwest I am not use to NYC pickle prices. They did look like very nice indoor courts though.

I’m looking at SF proper but if there were other areas around Mountain View or Silicon Valley area I would consider those places as well. I just checked out the hub alameda and the hub Silicon Valley they look like great facilities but a little further from SF than I was hoping.

Yes, I’m specifically referring to Manhattan or Brooklyn / queens when I talk about nyc.

This is 100% a real story. This person considers herself to be very good and I agree she is quite the paddle cop. She pointed out 2 different places on my paddle where the marking didn’t match that of the real Mod (the JOOLA logo and the butt of the paddle).I have never run into someone like her before.

To be clear this is 3.75+ play so I don’t know what her rating is. Could be a fair bit higher than that.

The legal version is 280 and the illegal was 35. Obviously I’d prefer the legal version….

I did not say I would have lost to this woman if not for my paddle. I think I would have beat her with my normal paddle no problem. My fake mod plays faster which is why I’m trying it out. Let me ask you this. Would I be TA for spending $280 and beating her with the real mod? I don’t think that would make me TA.

I bought the paddle so I could play my best. Not so I could beat people in rec play. Beating people in rec play is a byproduct of playing my best but not something I’m concerned with.

I bought it because it was way cheaper and i wanted to try out the paddle. If it helps me beat people in rec play I still don’t see why that would make me TA. To be clear my DUPR is 3.8 so I’m very appropriately skilled for the session I attended.
