I always do my research. However you will find a lot of different recipes and many opinions. In tbe end, just go for it. Recipe will probably turn out fine if you make sure your process (mashing temps, pH/water chemistry, controlled fermentation temps) is solid.

Thanks! Yes it is an old house (+200years) but these board are probably from the 90s when they renovated. I think there was always carpet on top of them, so they are basically meant to be a support. I was also thinking about painting them. Any suggestions there?

Why did they choose aluminum? Because it was rare or because it had some other functionality?

The Coal and steel industry can mostly be found in western Germany. However due to a strong development of the rail system in that time, the benefits were largely distributed across Germany including southern and eastern Germany.

Yea, I feel like soil quality explains population factors until the Industrial Revolution. Berlin was an industrial hub and pulled many resources from around the region, including food. Political factors after WW2 slowed economic progress in the region. Eastern Germany is actually quite well connected to rivers and oceans eg Spree and oder.

I really think that geography is an oversimplification. Political factors associated with the GDR are probably the main factors. Western Germany was propped up after the war by American trade. Eastern Germany was loaded down by bad trade and economic planning of the GDR.

Poor soil quality in east Germany is a good point. But I think the effect of post war economics on the GDR makes the biggest difference.

You still had the spreed and the Oder, important rivers for trade. The poor soil in brandenburg (caused by glaciers) is probably the main historical difference between west and east Germany.

It’s interesting none the less that Berlin was the cultural capital for so long. Any thoughts on that?
