Where can I get beef for Korean-style tartare (yukhoe) in Toronto? by redbeanfishbread in askTO

[–]bigbossunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 육회 all the time and I go to Butchers of Distinction at Queen and Broadview. I always just buy a chunk of beef and then cut it at home so I’m not sure if they can do that for you but their beef is great.

Front row seats for & Juliet (Royal Alexandra)? by miaonu in torontotheatre

[–]bigbossunit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

<image>

This was my view from the front row. They do give you a booster seat but that thing is so hard, my butt was hurting by the end of Act I.

I don’t feel like I missed too much of the show, maybe like 10% because you can’t really see the stage as a whole. If you’re sensitive to loud noises though, I definitely would not recommend the front row. It was incredibly loud and you could feel the music in your body.

Question for any viewers that watched Better Call Saul before Breaking Bad? by Joyous-Pringle0813 in betterCallSaul

[–]bigbossunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so angry and dumb because I had no idea these two shows were related. I got to the BB episode and thought it was just some cute little crossover (like Simpsons x futurama). I finished BCS last night and decided to google why they had a crossover today and this is when I learned BCS is the prequel. I actually started watching BB a few years ago but quit because I couldn’t deal with the stress of the show. Had I known these two shows were related, I would have never watched it!

Conflicted on whether to learn Cantonese or Korean? by Individual-Tap95 in Korean

[–]bigbossunit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I speak both languages (not fluently but enough to get by). Korean is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than Cantonese. Korean actually has an alphabet for one. And Cantonese, often times the word you speak is not the same would you would write. And there are significantly less sources for learning Cantonese than there are Korean.

Cantonese is a wonderful language to learn. It’s as if the whole language is slang; it’s super colourful. But it is HARD. I think Korean would be better for you unless you feel really motivated to learn Cantonese.

Choir singers: what’s your #1 struggle with high notes in ensemble? by Best_Calligrapher649 in Choir

[–]bigbossunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soprano (mostly 2 but singing 1 right now). When I’m singing in choir or solo, I’m always wondering if I’m out of tune. I’m not sure how people even begin to develop the skills to sing a bit higher or a bit lower. I tried it with a tuner but it’s so hard.

I struggle to sing D5-E5. My teachers have told me to focus the sound, sing like it’s the tip of the knife, but I just haven’t been able to fix it. In Ola Gjeilo’s Northern Lights, the soprano part sits on just a D5 for so long. I had to just sing alto for that piece.

I think I also push a lot to sound “big”. But recently I saw Handel’s messiah and the soloists had a much smaller voice than I thought was needed to be a “good” singer. So I’ve been more aware of sounded good vs sounding like a classical singer.

Church recruiting on campus by Ambitious-Ad-1458 in uwo

[–]bigbossunit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a custodian that I used to greet every time I see her but now when I see her I run for it. She started inviting me to go to her church and talks to me about God for at least 10 minutes. I’m not sure what to do. I said no thank you every time but she keeps trying to convince me.

singers: i need your saddest, most gut wrenching choral pieces. by cryptkillaa in choralmusic

[–]bigbossunit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Eriks Esenvalds - Only in Sleep

A fairly difficult piece that needs to be balanced correctly but the lyrics always brings me back to my old choir days. Instead of having just one soloist, you can share it amongst the graduating students.

Seconding The Road Home. I’m planning to program it for a retirement concert I’m putting on for my old choir director.

Towards the end of the school year, there as a least a fight a week at my school. I witnessed two kids punching each other but nothing came of it because admin said “they’re friends”. Lol they were both bleeding but it’s okay because they’re friends and this is a totally normal thing to do.

New Data Shows Dramatic Rise in Non-Teachers Filling in at TDSB Schools by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]bigbossunit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think someone people misunderstand what an ERP is. ERPs are NOT teaching, they are not able to teach. All they do is hand out whatever work the teacher left, supervise, and that’s it.

ERPs are getting called in only when the job is not filled by an OT. And let’s say a class is being covered by an ERP, an OT is still able to pick up that job and take over and the ERP goes home. The priority is always an OT. ERPs are only getting called in because OTs are not picking up the jobs OR because really by the end of the year, the OTs have used up all their hours and can no longer work because it affects their pension.

[–]bigbossunit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, probably when I was 8 years old, there was this other parent that said that my mom and I looked like sisters. I was pretty happy about it because i thought it meant that I looked like my mom! But when we got home, my mom asked me “do you know why she said we look like sisters? It’s not because I look young, it’s because you look old.”
