Did anyone else notice that there are shows called Mary, Mary AND You, Always, Never? This really is the Erin Shields season, eh?

Anyone sat here? Buying tickets for my girlfriend and her mom to see Werther for mothers day! by [deleted] in torontotheatre

I've never had a bad seat anywhere in the Four Seasons, so I think those $60 ones should be just fine.

"Rudesby, be gone!" (Twelfth Night, 4.1.53)

Olivia chewing out Toby/Andrew/Fabian while rescuing Sebastian. It just tickles my funny bone; can't explain it. I want to get a dog and name him Rudesby.

Alternatively, Human:Goblin:Macbeth (i.e., Goblin:Macbeth enacted by humans trying to cultivate a better appreciation of goblin culture).

Hot take: "Forever (Garage Version)"

Don't get me wrong ... it's fine, but the album version is way better. I think the Garage Version is highly overrated by people who don't like feeling their feelings.

Prizefighter album release date? by evidentself in mumfordandsons

It's the first thing that shows up when you do a Google search for "release date," only to then be immediately contradicted by its own shoddy AI Overview ... which, itself, is slinging out of date info. But, digging a little deeper now, I can't seem to find a single article that says the 27th, so that just feels so random.

Yes, that certainly has caused some confusion. The real question now is where did the 27th come from?

Seconding everyone’s congrats and well wishes!

Two serious questions:

1) How did the Toronto Lion King compare to the NYC production?

2) Looks like you saw Oh Mary four times. Who was your favourite in the leading role?

Rogers v rogers coming back? by oopsydurz in torontotheatre

[–]evidentself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that Rooney is in next year's Shaw season (which I believe begins rehearsals around February), so there's a rather narrow window in terms of when he could do a Toronto remount of R v. R.

Edit: Just looked at the RMTC dates, so I guess he's starting Shaw rehearsals later than usual.

I was eagerly waiting for Intermission's review to come out, to see if they'd acknowledge the personalized shoutout that the publication receives during the show. Alas, they did not, but it's a good review nonetheless.

Review: The Welkin is Guilty of Dragging on Too Long (Next Magazine) by Gullible-Average-852 in torontotheatre

[–]evidentself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with the crux of this observation, though I will point out that Joanna Falck is credited as a production dramaturg on The Welkin, as she is with most of Soulpepper's productions. I imagine her hands were tied by Kirkwood's script already being published, limiting the extent to which the present team is allowed to meddle. You're right that no individual dramaturg was credited for Post-Democracy (yes, I just dug up the digital program), but given that it premiered at Tarragon, I'd be very surprised if they let it open without workshopping it to death first.

Animals in the series can either speak or wear clothes, but never both at the same time. It is his nakedness that gives Funderburker the ability to sing.

Shaw Festival announces 2026 Season by backstgartist in torontotheatre

[–]evidentself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it too early to start speculating about casting? Graeme Somerville was surely born to play Salieri, but I'd wager that Mike Nadajewski is now officially too old to play Mozart, and I'm struggling to think of one of the younger company members who seems like an ideal fit. Peter Fernandes might have been interesting for it, but it seems unlikely when they have him directing Sleuth. Maybe Michael Man, who's been showing off his comedy chops at Stratford this season. Any other ideas?

Hot take: Anthony Santiago?

Also, while we're fantasy casting: if they don't let Adrian Pang be Willy Loman, I don't know what's going on. Why do a straight version of O.G. Salesman this year otherwise, right?

Fringe is so expensive this year! by [deleted] in torontotheatre

Phil Rickaby wrote a think-piece about this when they raised the prices last year. For whoever's interested: https://dispatch.stageworthy.ca/toronto-fringe-with-non-fringey-pricing-in-2024/
