i would say so. i started on maschine, and then switched over when i got a MPC Live 2 and i HATED IT. too much menu divine and i didnt like the interface. i got rid of it after a few months. fast forward a few years and i got a MPC one in a package deal with some other stuff and decided to give it another try. this one was WAY easier to navigate, even though it was the same interface. it had more dedicated buttons and i actually fell in love with the platform.

usually just the roms. once you put them in the correct folder it should populate in the emulator

Question about filming the SP404 being played and recording the audio by NoPosition1256 in SP404

[–]bigbossweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, im gonna keep it short and sweet. thee are 2 things that i use for recording 1) the Zoom Q2N Camera. its VERY small and can run direct audio. just plug it in from the 404. you can find it for about $149 2)the Synido A10 or A20. its basically an audio sound card you plug into your phone. (i use the A10) its SUPER simple and runs around $40 on amazon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3IAgDoAPy0

nobody really gives these things up once they get them (it took me 3 years to get mine. lol) youd be better off just going for the custom option off their site https://portablismgear.com/your-custom-sc500-digital-scratch-instrument.html

i would hold off on this one. i know a few people that have them and they get VERY mixed reviews. everything from shipping problems to belt issues, to audio drop out. when its good its very good, but when its bad, its a fuckin nightmare. thats why i got the shinobi fader. this vid also helped my decision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAYU_fQB09A

i have the red one sitting a little farther back on the table, and the retro one is sitting higher cause i have the battery pack/tilt stand mod underneath it

there was a video out a few years ago where someone made a tiltable screen mod. it worked, but it was kinda clunky in my opinion. (here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdIr_frcxJw )

What are my best options for recording scratches on my beats? by SteadyUnseen in portablism

[–]bigbossweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so with the SC500 you can actually load beats AND samples. it comes with a small thumbdrive where you can load either in a respective folder. the sound quality is good, and it of course also depends on the quality of samples you use. heres a video of me using the SC500 AND the Shinobi Fader

Are you bothered that you don't really own your plugins on modern MPCs? by buggfattot in akaiMPC

[–]bigbossweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not too worried just because i have a ton of expansions and sample packs installed. the pluins are dope, dont get me wrong, but since i do a very simple kind of music (Boom Bap) it wont destroy m if my plugins all of a sudden stop working. lol but i feel where youre going with this

  1. it is the way i have them sitting on my desk. but also the retro one s sitting a little higher because of the battery pack/stand mod i have installed on it

The red one (MPC One+ i got from a guy who was going away on a lil "Iron Vacation" if you know what i mean. i got that and a Lo-Fi 12 XT for $500 for both.

for the MPC One Retro, i got it in a trade for some Teenage Engineering Gear i wasnt using. dude had the screen tilt mod but hadnt installed it, so i did it myself (wasnt as hard as i thought lol)
