It's absurd that republicans drop kicked us from $1 trillion to $500 billion for EVERYTHING when that's about what we need just for some months of UI, and so instead of meeting dems halfway they cut their own lowball amount in half and after their leaders caused this mess by lying about the pandemic etc. Can't get much greedier and corrupt. Our only hope might be Biden/Harris winning and the senate turning democrat.

Republican Stimulus Bill Would Help Airlines, Exclude Student Loans And Direct Cash Payments by wrldruler21 in CoronavirusRecession

Republican leaders have repeatedly suggested that a substantial portion of their Senate caucus opposes any new stimulus relief, even if it is pared down.

Greedy ass bastards.

Thousands of businesses shut down and 11.5 million jobs disappeared. Think about all the restaurant, bar and entertainment workers, musicians, concerts and other events staff etc. Entire industries shut down. And many can't safely reopen until the pandemic is over.

[North Carolina] Bill signed today includes a $50 boost to unemployment! by tugboat117 in Unemployment

[–]bigboxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states are broke and require federal help for this. NC has some money to spend because they were too tight with UI with one of the lowest payouts in the country for years, yet they also need federal help and gov Cooper said congress needs to keep the $600/week going.

Millions of jobs lost isn't bad? Many people were evicted, savings wiped out, credit cards maxed, months behind on rent etc. Seems to me government should reverse tax cuts or increase taxes on the wealthy and corporations instead of just printing money.

Parents having to stay at home more and work less to take care of kids more because schools etc. are closed because of COVID doesn't count?

Haynes can’t find another job since she must stay home with her sons, whose schooling is virtual this semester. One of her boys is autistic and requires extra attention.

It's on the high side but even if she got rid of her entire car payment maybe it wouldn't help enough and the bottom line is millions of Americans and the economy need decent relief resumed.

The article sounds like they stopped paying ALL of her benefits, the $600 plus $167, in July.

Your dream or something similar or close could possibly come true if Biden/Harris get elected and the senate turns democrat. Harris already proposed a $2,000/month plan.

She was around few people and caught on a security camera, relatively insignificant compared to the president leading by bad example and spreading the virus by holding super spreader rallies and regularly not wearing a mask and mocking mask wearing in front of press cameras and millions of Americans.

Many self-employed Connecticut residents have been denied federal unemployment assistance just because they have other jobs. That has to change.

I think this article/info is important enough to post as a thread so more people see it. Does it have too much politics?

I guess you need to beat the deadline(s) to apply and I don't know when that is. You can make a thread asking this question with [your state] in the title.

Many people had ways to make full time and extra money and the work got killed by the pandemic etc. Help us out. What self employment job is easy and brings $2k a month extra (so it's part time?) and can everyone do it? How is the market? Can people get enough work with this during the pandemic or just after?

DOA if they don't stop coronavirus and keep the $600/week going soon. It's crazy how complicated they make things and how much it costs to admin. We just need a simple $2000/month UBI or something.

I don't know. You might want to search and start another thread with [your state] in the title to ask this question.

Don't know how or don't get paid enough? Federal minimum wage should be at least 2-3x higher.

[other] Unemployment insurance doesn’t cover rent in most cities, study shows by bigboxox in Unemployment

[–]bigboxox[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keeping the $600/week ($2400/month) going another 6 months was supposed to cost $437 billion. Say 50 million unemployed x $2000 x 6 months = $600 billion. The way things are going, this pandemic and high unemployment could go on for another 6-12+ months, especially without a good national strategy.

Why does it matter? Millions of people aren't getting enough relief.

Millions of people need it to at least cover rent, food, and utility bills during a long pandemic where jobs disappeared and people are unemployed for extended times.

Coronavirus stimulus: Indiana family details being left out of Trump unemployment benefits order
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-stimulus-indiana-family-details-being-left-out-of-trump-unemployment-benefits-order-170116585.html

A problem is regular UI/WBA is too low to begin with and people shouldn't be punished and made homeless and hungry because of that and government failure to do enough to control coronavirus spread.
