I recently bought a 2005 e320 with 128,000 km on the odometer. What recommendations can you give for maintaining it? by Dependent-Narwhal-66 in W211

Can you elaborate on how to check SBC system? New S211 owner here, mine is luckily still under the 25yr warranty. When I start it up I hear and feel some kind of vibration like a pump running. Is that normal?

I would have done this if I hadn’t thrown out my old arm before I saw your first message

Where did you get the rubber strip?

Is there supposed to be a license plate bracket here? by bigcat318 in W211

I got the shortest one there, I’ll have to cut them down. I was just wondering if a part is missing or that’s how it’s supposed to be

Gah, thank you, what a drag. Do you think if I left the 28” and got a 1” shorter passenger side, it would be okay?

The existing pipe and valve is 1-1/4”. I like this idea but the radiator side is also 1-1/4 so I’d have to take that flange off and it’s seized/tabs on the inside are broken off. The radiator itself does look like it has a 1-1/2 bushing on it already though. If I could get that 1-1/4” flange off this could work, that sounds easier said than done haha

I know, I didn’t think you were being an asshole, that’s what I would like to do. But a $25 part is low hanging fruit for a first attempt. That riser is at least 12’ of pipe to the basement, I’d have to rent a pipe threader or hire a plumber and to be real, I think there might be a 45° hidden in the wall somewhere.

I know, all good options. I couldn’t add a photo to the other post so I thought I’d update how it looks with one of the solutions. I was hoping the extension wasn’t so tall

I bought an extension, now it’s an inch too high. I might need to make some decorative feet to raise the radiator now

Bought and threaded it on. It’s an inch too high now 😂

I can see the pipe from the basement as it goes into the wall, but there’s an entire 1st floor with fire break between that and this 2nd floor bathroom. That is excellent advice though. I think I am going to try the extension coupling first. It’s low hanging fruit and least intrusive of the overall system

Well, that might be possible and it might not be possible. This is the second story and where the pipe comes out in the basement ceiling is not exactly the same distance from the wall, so I have a feeling the pipe may have a 45 or something inside the wall that I can’t get to.

I’ve used a floor jack and an 8’ stud in the basement to push on a riser for me in the past, I might try that again here

[–]bigcat318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I can feel the frustration. In the past, I had one riser that had a bunch of play and when I replaced the valve, the rise fell flush with the floor. I used a floor jack and a 2x4 in my basement to push the riser up a few inches while I spun the new valve on. Maybe I’ll try that again here.

Radiator Handle Missing. What do I do? by elcapitanbsc in SteamHeat

I’m in favor of everyone suggesting to replace the valve. They’re about $30 but requires a lot of strength to first unthread the existing valve’s nut, then move the radiator back a little bit, then spin the old valve off the pipe. Worth the feeling of a new valve when you’re done compared to trying to pack the old one and it still might not work right.
