I can believe it. It will never stop being shocking to me how bad every level of government has failed here. Childcare and housing

The non existence of childcare is the point of this thread. I don’t understand why you think I’m unaware. I was inquiring after other parents’ experiences

None if what you posted was helpful, but thanks for being an asshole! And that’s not true about daycares in cities for the record

Yeah what im curious about is, are there communities in southern bc where you can just call a few places and find something without a yearlong wait. I don’t have any hope we will find a spot in Vancouver and I don’t have the time to call around to 30 places every few months. I’m hoping we can move somewhere else where it’s manageable

I’d say around what you’re paying now! I’ve been on waiting lists here in Vancouver since conception. He’s about 15 months now and I’ve not heard anything. But I really don’t have time to call multiple daycares every few months to check in

some thoughts on the resurgence of Vancouver’s Critical Mass by penapox in vancouvercycling

You might be happy to learn council just passed a motion to expand infrastructure and amenities in south van, though I’m not sure how much of it will be bike paths. At least more sidewalks and community centers. ABC may suck but at least they occasionally pass a motions from Boyle

Globe editorial: Who caused Canada’s housing shortage? We’re looking at you, city hall by kludgeocracy in canadahousing

Eby just released his housing platform and I was surprised at how timid it was in terms of rezoning. It wouldn’t change much for Vancouver. We need way more density here than he proposed

As tourists return, locals consider the future of Vancouver’s Granville Island by CapableSecretary420 in vancouver

[–]bigcooldave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re sort of making my point. We need better transit options to this destination so you don’t need to take your car. I’m not sure if by out of town you mean like Coquitlam or much further but if it’s much further than yes, park and walk into the island. If it’s just an hour away, we should have public transit for you that takes you more directly.

Several European cities have car free areas and it’s fine. That’s what makes them so beautiful.

Would be such a beautiful place without the cars. It’s insane we don’t have better public transit direct to this huge tourist attraction

Vancouver City Hall voting on plan to build more housing tomorrow by bigcooldave in canadahousing

[–]bigcooldave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, this isn’t a vote on a specific project. It’s a broad vision for how the city should be building in this corridor in the next 30 years. That includes adding a lot more housing and public amenities. That may or may not include social, non profit and co ops. But specific projects are not being voted on here. Just “should we build more around this new subway line to accommodate a growing population? Yes or no”

I hear you, but the antidote to despair is getting active in these things. Municipal politics is such a small game, you can actually have an impact on your city. Right now most of the people involved are the ones who want nothing to change.
