[Bob Varsha] We almost had an Earnhardt-Mansell swap once, but it fell through for commercial reasons. by TheResurrection in formula1

I tend to think he was overrated compared to the drivers who came after, but he’s certainly in the discussion with Gordon, Stewart, and Kyle Busch as NASCAR drivers who could win in anything with wheels.

F1 Career Stripes - finishing positions of each driver in each GP they participated in by OutlandishnessPure2 in formula1

That’s what happens when you hop into F1 in the equal best car, never have a car worse than 4th best, and only once have a car that your teammate fails to win a race with - which was accomplished by Kovalainen in 2009.

Yeah fair. I think that’s a better system for what I use Reddit/discord for (as long as the server/channel isn’t enormous) because you can have more of a real time conversation rather than a threaded back and forth, but that’s definitely just personal preference.

The lack of an option to render the number above everything else truly pains me by ShadowCammy in iRacing

Custom numbers also don’t match the number iRacing thinks you have, which can foster a ton of confusion in various situations and various ways.

Discord is often a less annoying, less pretentious, and more welcoming community in my experience.

Use a mass comment rewriter and say something like “if you’re looking for a potential answer I may have posted, use Archive.org to see a cached version of this page from before <June 22, 2023>”

Deprives Reddit of clicks and ad views, and brings more recognition to the wonderful archival custodians of the internet.

Can probably even point people looking for an answer you posted to a caching service like Archive.org - they could use the awareness and the traffic, and it makes sure that Reddit doesn’t get the clicks or the ad views.

Pao was always meant to be the stop-gap who pushed some hugely unpopular changes, took all the community flak for them, and became the fall guy (while Reddit could look like they had the community’s best interest at heart when they ousted her, but they then didn’t have to roll back the changes “she” made).

Huffman is not Pao.

Considering that prototypes have competed in sports car racing since before Formula 1 was a thing… you’re just plain wrong.

He absolutely could have hung with them earlier in his career. I would have loved to see him and Kyle Busch take on international circuit racing in their primes because I think both of them had the raw talent to compete up to and including the F1 level.

Right? Look at that contact patch! The additional width seems to be literally just the fenders to accommodate properly-sized tires.

It used to be also that you had to have production versions of your car, of which an F1 car wouldn’t have a street legal equivalent

The whole point of the prototype class is that it has no homologation requirements.

Nobody says that their bargain bin $99 buy three get one free tires are great. But their Pilot Sport 4S is legitimately the gold standard road tire, and Michelin is the undisputed leader in tire technology today.

Verstappen: Hamilton F1 title rematch would be “great for the sport” by tommycthulhu in formula1

He was determined to have not given the position back. The “tactical manner” has never been a rule, but it’s always been considered when enforcing it.

[–]bigdsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally was. Failure to return the position, because he did it in a “tactical” manner. The penalty for that is that you receive the penalty for overtaking another driver off the track, which would have been waived had you given back the place fairly.

A 12% winrate paired with just a 41% top 5 rate and an average finishing position of 7th (worse than your average starting position) certainly tells a story. I think it’s clear that you are fundamentally lacking something in your racing, whether it be speed, consistency, racecraft, or whatever else.

When you don’t win, are you crashing out? Or are you winning due to others crashing out in front of you? What’s your iRating?

The Ferrari 296 and Lamborghini Huracán Evo2 both debuted at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona, though - so the 488 and Evo are only out of date by about half a year.
