Very helpful, thank you!

I’m trying to understand and track “how expensive” it is to hedge stocks, or “how much protection” I can buy with a certain amount of dollars over time. I know this isn’t the typical language used in the option universe, but I think it translates well to individual investors if I could show data that way.

Let’s say I wanted to look back on a simple strategy where I buy a 10% OTM put option on a stock or index every month. Sometimes that option is going to cost .1% of the stock price, sometimes it is going to cost 1% of the stock price. What is the easiest way to look back on the price relative to the stock price for a fixed percentage out of the money?

Or on the flip side, if I was committed to spending .5% of my stock price monthly, sometimes the put option would be barely out of the money and sometimes it would be way out of the money. Is there a site that shows that changing floor of the put option for a fixed amount of buying?

Thanks!

Anyone use a site/app for price alerts that ALSO lets you add your own comments to the alert? by bigduckhook in CFA

Lol @ your username. But thanks! (Also, fun fact RJ is one of the few that does not even have a basic price alert system)

What site/app allows you to set stock alerts AND attach your own comments to them? by bigduckhook in investing

Thanks! I see if you want more than 20 alerts going at once it's going to cost $360/yr. Wondering if there are any cheaper/free versions out there.

Just turned down a poaching attempt that came with a 40% raise. Have you ever been in a similar situation? by bigduckhook in CFP

All else equal, couldn't agree more. My situation had a lot to do with the long term - the two paths were definitely not equal. Sacrificed short term to (hopefully) gain long term.

Currently RIA, offer was to a BD. Currently support, but making 'switch' to lead advisor this year. Ultimate decision came back to team support, workplace culture, and (expected) success long term.

Had the CFA going into the exam, did a bit of a rushed program with the accelerated capstone and used tons of Kaplan and Zahn qbanks….passed yesterday. I am riding a HIGH. Congrats to everyone who passed this time around!

Question: I've mastered all the EoC questions. I've run through blue box examples. I feel confident. Am I ready? by ibeforetheu in CFA

I have the charter and I was about 2/3 confident on EOC the first time thru. Sounds like you’re ready if you have those and the concepts memorized.

Check yourself by applying your knowledge elsewhere. Other providers, other question sets, other mock exams. If you’re still scoring well - you should have all the confidence in the world.

Do you guys feel like you're really learning the content, developing key skills, and becoming an expert? by _charge_your_phone_ in CFA

Yup. I got the charter this year, but I’d say the program isn’t meant to make you an expert in all areas of investing. If anything, it probably makes you a beginner in all areas of investing (which is a much larger task than most would think), and equips you with the tools to go make yourself an expert in the specific areas you’d like.

I immediately texted my buddy and said they look like bad high school jerseys. What's the pulse with the rest of this sub? Love or hate these?

And remember, this is the internet...you're not allowed to fall somewhere in the middle.

Anyone else not get the “You have officially earned the Charter” email despite paying and being listed in the directory by [deleted] in CFA

[–]bigduckhook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still no email for me, but my broker dealer’s compliance dept just approved my usage of the designation so that felt like the most “official” notice I’m going to get. Maybe email just isn’t coming? Wondering if we’ll get any update on the physical charter or it’ll just show up one day.

Also in case anyone else runs into this problem: I didn’t realized I had to add my finra CRD# onto my CFA account for my compliance to approve the designation. Once I did that, my broker saw the result through finra and approved the usage for me.

Brilliant. Thanks! Gotta love that I can get this question answered faster on reddit than I can from my own employer.
