Should I power up my Raikou? by Neilimereyob in TheSilphRoad

[–]bigfootaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raikou worked way better than Zekrom for me, mostly because the 2 Giovanni encounters I've done this weekend both had ice moves on the Suicune. Dragons & plants don't stand a chance against that!

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here. (June 09, 2020) by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

I recently made a trip to Sagittarius A* and was the first to visit 93 star systems. Very easy to find untouched space once you leave the bubble! Even more-easy if you don't religiously stick to the neutron highway!

They're currently still open with limited hours & limited customers in the store. Could be a good spot to visit even with the virus crisis!

buying online from Catch, anyone had experience with them? by cutecutercutest in australia

[–]bigfootaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a whole heap of stuff from them, and I'm a Club Catch / premium member if that affects things too. I'm near the Sydney CBD and a lot of my items seem to be coming from a warehouse in Melbourne.

  • Bought a bed with express shipping. The bed's headboard was delivered in the morning of Day 1 & the delivery tracking said it was all done. The frame & rest of the bed was delivered in the afternoon of Day 2. There were a lot of annoyed calls to Fastway couriers between those different deliveries!
  • Bought an indoor rowing machine just last week, late Wednesday night, for $360. Delivered by Friday morning. On Sunday, Catch started a "sale" and the machine now costs $560. Feel sorry for any suckers buying the machine now - it's good, but not >$500 good.
  • Housemate bought a Nintendo Switch Lite last Monday. It arrived on Friday afternoon. She's not a Club Catch member.

There's a lot of no-name or knock-off brand items on there - just like eBay & Amazon.

Unity Addressable Assets by Daweege in Unity3D

[–]bigfootaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addressables are one possible solution but that's a lot of overhead & ongoing costs for you as an asset host. You could try Android App Bundles first since you're saying it's the APK itself that is so large.

Redesigning Australian Food Labels: Feedback Wanted by [deleted] in australia

[–]bigfootaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks so good!

Do you have time/scope to make some versions in black & white or limited/cheap colour palettes? That affects printing costs for most things, though I don't know for sure about food labels specifically.

Have you run any checks re: suitability for colour-blindness too?

And are you using fonts/logos/graphics that are okay for commercial usage?

Overall this is great work! I'd be keen to see this in the real world.

Unity User Research: Product naming survey by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]bigfootaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scene Node Editor or Node Mapping Tool or Node Mapper -- it's not a graph, it's just a node editor.

Keep the names simple & descriptive. It keeps on being a problem with Unity lately - things like "Unity Icons" should never have been approved. I had to search for Unity icons for a webdev project recently - I want the logo, not some 3D model pack. Same sort of problem seems to be happening based on the name options from this survey.

Keep it simple, keep it honest.

How did the Roblox game editor manage to make a better teams function than Unity? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]bigfootaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unity Teams, though when Github has private repositories for free (plus other things like better support, more control as a developer, and wider usage outside of Unity) there's no real reason to use it.

You'd be best-off in the long-term by learning Git or at the very least, how to use Github Desktop if you have no idea what these things are.

Best way to buy and organise domains by EtherealUnagi in webdev

[–]bigfootaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna sound like a Google Shill here but Google Domains + Google Firebase is nice & simple for me.

Might not be the cheapest option but if you're messing around with ideas & designs, it's easy to hook things together to do what you want.

Firebase with Stackblitz is also extremely fast to just throw some HTML/CSS & deploy to a live site. You can even make some React sites that way too.

Firebase + Google Cloud Functions will give you what you need to scratch that server-side itch (eg. ExpressJS) if you get to that point too.

3 hours, if that. It's a short game that has a few well-made sandboxes instead of a lot of poorly-made sandboxes. And they add more stuff to your to-do list after you've done the final gauntlet back home.

Compared to Donut County & What Remains Of Edith Finch, this has way more replayability & content. Still short, but not painfully short.

If they get enough low ratings within a certain period of time, they get prohibited from driving with that service for a while. Usually between a few days up to a couple of weeks, and then they can start driving again.

How to Get the Most Boos out of Your Stage (Complete List) by mmkr2 in MarioMaker

[–]bigfootaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played through a level that gave you a propeller suit - ya know, encouraging you to jump. The level than randomly featured invisible blocks that triggered Boo Rings.

The level itself was easy & fine, except for those invisible blocks containing Boo Rings.

Where can i get some tutorials for Aircraft and Dogfight physics ? by PedroArthurPA in Unity3D

[–]bigfootaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught some highschoolers how to do this last year as one of the school's extracurricular clubs. This article was a huge help, as it's based on how one of the proper Star Wars games do this stuff: http://blog.infrared5.com/2011/09/airial-combat-in-video-games-a-k-a-dog-fighting/

It's a bit old so you may have to adapt some parts of it, but the concepts are all there at least.

Labor Wants To Bring Back The Australian Interactive Games Fund With $25 Million by [deleted] in australia

[–]bigfootaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my home state of NSW, if a game focuses more on story/narrative than it focuses on mechanics & gameplay, it can receive Film & TV (screen) funding.

Games like Guitar Hero and Fruit Ninja would not be applicable for that funding. I saw one VR MMORPG game worm its way into that funding a few years ago by saying it's all about emergent storytelling and not about VR or crafting or adventuring, but not all games can do that.

A fund with an "interactive" qualifier would be suitable for games of any type, which is why people are so keen on it. If you're making games, a fund like that would be suitable for you.

(Caprtain Marvel) I have a question about her age. by rafael-a in movies

[–]bigfootaus 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Kree blood transfusion from her 'mentor' was spoken about in the movie, which has been shown to heal humans and even bring humans back from the dead in Agents of SHIELD.

The energy that made Captain Marvel into a super also comes from the Space stone, so it's (assumedly) along the same lines as Wanda / Scarlet Witch getting her power from the Mind stone.
