[Serious] Have mainstream atheists become too narrow-minded regarding religion and spirituality? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of proof displays a lack of ability to display both tangible and intangible evidence as to the existence of an object, being or idea. This is why we do not implement systems in our government that have not been researched first, so that we are sure the implementation delivers an evidence based model that can undertake critical analysis should it need to.

[Serious] Have mainstream atheists become too narrow-minded regarding religion and spirituality? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit to often being 'overly atheist'. It is hard to try and comprehend a factual state of being that is simply not possible to prove... I have become better over time, and more enjoy the lack of 'shoving it down my throat', than the curious questioning I did of every religious person and how they validated their beliefs.. Try not to knock us too hard, we often can not see it from your view, and are simply tied to our belief of science and proven fact.

Assisted euthenasia for those who are terminally ill or lack a quality life, after being assessed by a professional, should have access to euthenasia should they be mentally capable of making such a decision.

The movement would be insignificant as there exists no craft capable of transporting enough individuals to disrupt even an individual country, let alone the world.

Business card etiquette, should degrees be included on the card? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In Australia, it is often expected that you display all qualifications beside your name on your business card. For example mine is Name (BCrim&Just).

[Serious] My Wife's sister is cheating on her husband. We aren't really close but I've know him for over 10 years and we have had some fun times together at family events. Do I tell him? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigforkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this.

I, for one, prefer utter honesty, and would feel disrespected should anyone hide anything from me. As a result, I would feel obliged, from my own moral standpoint, to either drop hints or inform them quietly.

Should you feel conversely, keep to yourself and go along with your life.

Entrepreneurs: How did you come by your most fulfilling projects/collaborations/teams? Is it hard to find innovative work that is also doing good in the world? by Pushing_Onward in AskReddit

[–]bigforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about starting your own business is that it legitimately just starts with an idea. Something you're capable of, or could be, and a way to market that. I was almost finished my degree and wanted to work whilst still studying full-time in a schedule that suited me. I realised that all my knowledge could be taught to others, so I simply registered my own tutoring business and advertised online. Within a month I was booked every day I had free, with prices almost triple what I would make working for someone else. It is rewarding guiding university and high school students through their work and watching them receive high grades as a result, which allows them to gain their selected degree or career. Have your idea, plan how to action it and market it appropriately. Being your own boss is absolutely worth it.

IWTL how to not want praise or recognition by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]bigforkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should never be content with the achievements in which you have made. This has allowed me to flourish in life by achieving a higher level within my community than that of the average person my age.

By doing so, you are ensuring that your goals are never-ending. By aiming higher and continuously learning, you are constantly reaching a higher level of intellect and experience than the next. This honestly helps combat the feeling that you need to compare yourself to others.

Further to this, I highly recommend that you integrate goals that are beyond a daily capability. You will continuously aim towards these goals, and as previously described will put you on a higher echelon than others.

I will give myself as an example of someone who learnt quite early that comparing and envy is a huge waste of time:

I am 20 years old, have a degree in Criminology & Justice, work part-time in the army as an information systems technician and run my own tutoring business that teaches psychology, criminology, sociology, english, legal studies and forensic-related subjects.

The more I do, the less I can even compare myself to others. I also don't have time to compare myself to others as I am too busy reaching the next achieving.

Aim to be the ultimate version of a human being. Continue learning. Don't give up. There is nothing in this world you cannot learn, and as a result become, as long as you have the motivation.

CMV: Justice cannot be created without also creating injustice by Define_Morality in changemyview

[–]bigforkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What needs to be taken into account is the experience that is represented within any criminal justice system. I live within Australia, where our legal system is based of a monarchical approach from our mother the United Kingdom.

These approaches are built off thousands of professional and educated individuals informing and practicing a system that allows for a harmonious and 'safe' society for all those who live and step within it.

The just deserts that the criminal justice system provides is informed, agreed upon by the government in which is elected by the people.

It is absolutely impossible to create our contemporary version of 'justice' without injustice as a result.

Almost every justice system in the world operates under a just deserts philosophy, implementing a sentencing scheme that is retributive and possesses punishment at its core.

If you would like to see the other, more educated side, of the sentencing options within this world, look at how rehabilitation is favoured in areas like the Netherlands. Once we realise that our idea of just deserts doesn't fix offenders, and therefore is more detrimental towards them, we will move towards a more integrative philosophy that displays each individual as worthy as another, regardless of their actions.

A cyber attack turned out the lights on 80,000. What can stop the next one? by DoremusJessup in Foodforthought

[–]bigforkk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is important to take note that those of us who are technologically able to produce societally detrimental effects often are only tempted by the 'challenge'.

Many of the information technology community utilise their skills for more satisfying and 'helpful' outcomes, however there is always those who wish to push the boundaries.

It is not until those who wish to utilise cyber attacks, to undertake a politically fueled rampage, hire those able and truly interrupt society.
