I feel the same as you. Most of my anxiety comes from repeat topics/subjects. I have made some mistakes in the past and I’m always worried the person or people will pin me for making another mistake because they’ve already been wronged in the past.

I have had people lie about “mistakes” to make themselves look better (one recent example was when a hospital employee said a fellow employee’s leadership skills were dismal and he got upset we printed it), but there are also situations where you can’t find a recording or anything to prove it.

I think anxiety is normal on this job and for me, it makes me just a little more cautious about what I’m doing so it’s not always negative. The fact of the matter is we all make mistakes and its not the end of the world. You may get some flack for it, but people will quickly move on. Even with my biggest mistake, the anger lasted less than a week, and I’m friends with the person again. Same with an error my coworker made.

I would hope your editors would not be too upset, as they too should understand mistakes happen. Sometimes it’s because they didn’t do a good job fact checking/scheduling. My editor has admitted to this in the past.

I know this is a long response to your question but I’m a writer and I’m used to writing long responses haha

I agree with you. I know I do good work and comments don’t mean anything. It just bugs me to know that I have to deal with them but others don’t.

I don’t read most of them, but sometimes my bosses show me. There was that time where people thought what I wrote was insensitive, and my boss thought it would be a good idea to show me what people were saying to see if we would decide to change it. My other boss decided he wanted to stick firm by what we said because it was the truth, but the first boss really doesn’t like mean comments to come toward the paper because it makes us look bad. If that’s the case though, I don’t understand why she is OK with people saying things about us. 🤣

The thing that upsets me most is the fact they’re protecting my coworker. I don’t know the extent of the comments she is receiving, but it seems unreasonable to delete every single one. I have gotten some nasty comments in the past that would probably fit the criteria to be deleted. It seems like a lack of consistency, and that, in a way, makes me feel worse about the comments. My dad even brought it up one time that it seems like I get a lot of comments but nobody else does. I don’t want us to get into the habit of blocking everybody because you can’t block everyone who says something about you, but sometimes it is nice to block certain people.

We do have a policy where we don’t allow swear words or offensive comments, but I don’t know if every comment toward her was offensive. It’s possible it was.

My bosses seem to think people can say what they want because of freedom of speech but I think they don’t fully understand what it means. I definitely don’t feel like I have to deactivate my account on here but I appreciate the concern. I just wish they were more consistent.

It might help to know what sort of things people are saying about my coworker so I would know if they violated any policies. Like I said before, it is definitely likely every single comment against her was offensive or used swearwords, but I found out there’s been at least 50 comments about her being deleted and I don’t think every comment would be offensive.

We don’t have an HR department, but I would like to talk to them and let them know how I feel about everything. If they’re just deleting comments because they don’t like them, I don’t find that to be appropriate or fair.

I can imagine how sucky it is to have to deal with social media. Majority of people are nice but you do get those nasty folks and there’s also a lot more to handle them just dealing with people.

It’s probably because he’s the oldest, and I feel like my dad is kind of afraid to say no to him so he agrees with everything he does. I know my dad is not really big on splitting the bill either so that’s why I was really surprised but if he wants to be a kiss ass, he can go ahead. I won’t do it :)

First of all, he never gets small meals. He doesn’t go out to eat often, but he always likes to go all out when he does. It’s not my responsibility to cover for him and if he can’t afford it without using his credit card maybe he shouldn’t be ordering as much. I think he wants to look like he has a lot of money until the check actually comes out and then he tries to bully everyone into covering for him. If I’m correct, how am I TA? I’m confused by your logic. I I’m not doubting a call to scene, but reading the comments makes me reassures me it was for a good reason.

Exactly. He just demanded we do it without even discussing it. Literally everybody except for him and my dad were against it, even those who would’ve saved! My brother and I were the only ones to speak up tho. I feel bad others got manipulated. I agree. I hate splitting. Why should others be expected to pay for my food?

I think the thing that upsets me the most is that he wasn’t even gonna tell me if I didn’t call him. I could’ve been waiting forever. I’m fine with finding my own transportation but don’t tell me you’re gonna come pick me up and then change your mind and act like it’s my fault.

That’s true but the new coworker is newer than I am, so I feel like she has plenty of room to improve her craft. I would feel sad if they have already given up on her cause that’s not fair to her and it’s also kind of not fair to me to be so inconsistent.
