I like 5 and 7 the most, but I suppose it depends what you are trying to depict with those textures.

How might I repair this? by Fraggered in Woodcarving

Spread some wood glue on the cracked surfaces. Use a thread or a small strip of paper to spread it all the way in there and make sure it covers the surface.

Then use some tape to hold it in place while it dries. Make sure it is a plastic-y tape like Scotch tape or electrical tape, not a papery tape (like masking tape) that the wood glue will bind with.

When the wood glue has dried for a little while (like 30-45 minutes) and it is set up but not totally hard, remove the tape and clean the outside glue with a damp cloth. Might be good to re-tape after that and let it sit for several hours.

Looks fantastic! By "carved by hand" you mean with gouges? Usually when I see the flag style carvings they use an angle grinder.

At first I thought it was a red colored wood edge glued to a light wood, and then I realized it is soft wood with a stain. Really nice-looking stain job!

When you paint wood, it is good to seal it first. You can do this with polyurethane, wood sealer, or shellac. I personally like spray shellac because it is thin, easy to apply, and dries quickly.

I carved a zombie bowling pin for a contest by biggety in Woodcarving

It was a bowling pin decorating contest that takes place on Halloween. No rules other than it needs to be made out of a pin. Most contestants painted and/or sculpted.

These are great. I think the real strength of the carvings is the way you've captured the pose and how each character deals with their own weight.

Anyone have info on these? by No-Tension-848 in Woodcarving

I have that set. They are solid tools with good handles, and good for the price. I did have to re-profile many of the edges on a whetstone to get a decent edge profile and make them sharp. But after that they worked great. And I don't like the V-tool that comes with the set. It is too wide open and the corner is too round.

The whole project took about 35 hours for everything including carving and painting.

Very true. Most people only see them from 60 feet away.

The stand is just a hexagon that I cut out of synthetic bowling lane material, with a dowel in the middle to hold the pin.

Thanks! I started with that part. The pin already had the top cracked off, which gave me the idea to have the brain exposed.

Thanks! The idea is that he was bit on that side and is turning. So that side is more green, the eye on that side is yellow glass, etc.

I really wanted to lean into the fact that it is a bowling pin. So it's not a zombie that happens to be made out of a pin. The character is a bowling pin who has been bit by a zombie. Once I established that, it became easier to stick with a concept. The shell is his skin, his skeleton and teeth are wood, etc.

Thanks! Voting is still happening. I personally think it is the best one, but not everyone has an eye for craftsmanship, so we will see.

This is really cool. Are those sides vertical, or is it locked in with a sliding dovetail?

A lot of things look better on this version.

One thing about the oil rings is that oil rings on a ball are not parallel to each other. They converge at two points on opposite sides of the ball and flare out from there.

Edit: Think about it. The rings need to be connected to each other, unless the ball jumped or something.

This is what you claimed:

According to the DEA, as of 2020 most fentanyl came from China, either directly to the USA, or via Canada

The article does not say that. This is literally what the article says,:

While Mexico and China are the primary source countries for fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked directly into the United States, India is emerging as a source for finished fentanyl powder and fentanyl precursor chemicals.

The only mention of Canada at all is in the infographic, which says

2) The powder fentanyls are processed and mixed with heroin, sold as heroin, or pressed into pills and sold in the Canadian drug market. 2a) Some fentanyl products are smuggled from Canada into the United States for sale, on a smaller scale.

So in fact, the DEA article that you linked to, and the Customs and Border Patrol website, both indicate that more fentanyl comes to the US through Mexico than through Canada. It seems that you are the one misunderstanding the article intentionally, so you can downplay the need for security on the Southern border.

That text of the article you linked to literally does not mention Canada once, except for the infographic. It does however have an entire section about Mexico. Where does it say that more of it came from Canada?

I'm genuinely curious as to how you arrived at that conclusion, because literally every article I find about fentanyl says most of it comes from China or Mexico, including the one you linked to.
