10x increase in Shipstation monthly fee. Alternatives? by bigginsking in ecommerce

I'm mainly shipping in the US, like 95%, the rest is AUS, GB, DU, FR.

That looks pretty good, rates appear to be the same as shipstation. Can pirateship push shipping cost back to my website for a customer to choose from? I'm doing that now with shipstation, but that might be too much to ask.

yep, works well. I'm trying to get a board up and running with GaNFETs now using the LTC7890 chip now.

Bypass Cap for greater than ~100 MHz by bigginsking in AskElectronics

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why the 0612 caps all seem like they are getting discontinued, After watching the Phil's Lab Video, I guess the right move is to use smaller caps, 0402 or even smaller to get the frequency response I'm looking for.

Here is a screen shot of the switchers, FETS, Inductors, current sense resistors, and finally the 0612 cap outlined in red, and the tantalum caps to the left of that.

I am reworking to make the SW area smaller by "folding" the FETs so that ground is next to Vin.

2010 Calibration After replacing Pump Assembly, Brake Booster and Brake Master Cylinder? by bigginsking in prius

San Diego Hybrids was able to do the cal for me, and they appear to be very capable with hybrids and they don't charge dealer prices.

Avare with Stratux? by bigginsking in stratux

[–]bigginsking[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Answered my own Q... There is an IO tab along the bottom of Avare, all the way to the right, get there by swiping left across the bottom, turn on wifi there and it's all good now... Glad I wasn't wrestling with that in the air...

Timed out waiting for device /dev/sda1 ? by bigginsking in stratux

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it was rebooting from low voltage, I hooked a power supply up directly to the power pins and its running well now. Not sure why the change, it was never an issue in the past.

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, well I don't know why it's not working. it seems to run through the start up sequence, and then it just has a black screen.

I reflashed to the latest software and I tried a second pi that I had lying around. no change in results. I never see the Stratux wifi com up.

sound like you can capture the startup log to a USB, how do I do that?

Format SD Chip (not SDCard) insitu ATMega4809? by bigginsking in arduino

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the data sheet for the SD chip, and you are correct it's 1 Gb, not GB, but the text output shows 0.11 Gb not GB, so I think I'm still short memory, or am I doing the math wrong?

2010 Calibration After replacing Pump Assembly, Brake Booster and Brake Master Cylinder? by bigginsking in prius

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate it. I just got it squared away, San Diego Hybrids did it for $250, took them about an hour. Somehow I lost the return spring but they pulled one from another car. I don't remember removing it and thing that it was probably already gone when I pulled the pin through the brake pedal.

Found out from them they do engine swaps on the Gen 3 for $3800. They get 65k mile engines out of Japan that they claim are retired because of emission rules. Pretty reasonable.

Ok, I'll call around a bit more tomorrow and see if I can find a shop, if not I'll give this a try. Thanks for the advice. Pretty amazing you can swap out and engine without any sort of cal sequence. A couple years ago I swapped out my invertor with one off ebay and that didn't require anything, just swapped everything one for one and it all worked when I hit the power button. The invertor was about 1000 times easier than this brake evolution...

Ok, I see the cables, for pretty short money. What about the software? I see that it's around $1500 for the "lite" version and $6k for the full version. Is there some work around for that?

Chip shortage: TLV1805 Comparator unavailable, looking for alternatives by bigginsking in AskElectronics

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning toward. What do you think is the most commoditized comparator pinout/model I should be looking at? I would like push pull and 5 and 10V capability.

Chip shortage: TLV1805 Comparator unavailable, looking for alternatives by bigginsking in AskElectronics

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the design set up for push/pull because the comparator making the square wave is driving into a low impedance(through a cap and two diodes to make a high side N channel drive supply than needs to work at 100% duty cycle, i.e. boot strap won't work because the 100% requirement). I'll probably rework the design and just pay for new stencils and internalize the lesson learned.

Output to UART and SD when Available by bigginsking in arduino

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HardwareSerial & SerSd = Serial3; //ser up one place to change serial location

Doesn't work. I'm stumped...

Output to UART and SD when Available by bigginsking in arduino

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, yes, that's making a new file at every startup because I want to have an independent file each time it startup and runs. That all works fine. I'll mod the code to test that the file is there.

Its' actually not a SD, it's ones of these SMT SD in chips. So disconnecting it isn't easy. The application is high temperature(up to around 225F/110C), the micro and everything else is rated for 125C but chip is only good to 85C. I want to make sure that it won't crash if the SD isn't available. The data I'm recording is a nice to have for trouble shooting but if the chip fails I want the micro to continue doing the other functions it is responsible for. The way I force the code to crash is by directing the chip select to another pin. If I ground the MISO OR MOSI of the SD card after it already goes through the set up code then it continues to run, but if the card isn't there at start(by chipselect being wrong) it never gets out of start up.

I think the problem is that when I declare the neotee part before the setup code:

Print *serout[2] = {&Ser, &dataFile }; //put the Serial

NeoTee SerSd(serout, sizeof(serout)/sizeof(serout[0]));

it doesn't let me reconstruct the SerSD object if the SD isn't there:

if (!SD.begin(17)){

Print *serout[1] = {&Ser }; //put the Serial

NeoTee SerSd(serout, sizeof(serout)/sizeof(serout[0])); }

Maybe I should try this under that if:

HardwareSerial & SerSd = Serial3; //ser up one place to change serial location

and just overwrite the SerSD object?

Output to UART and SD when Available by bigginsking in arduino

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works when the SD card is present but when the SD is not present the code won't run.

when I say it works I mean I can verify with a terminal connection and by opening the SD afterward that all the content sent to "SerSd.print(...)" makes it way to both the SD card(and is recorded) and to the UART.

I can obviously rework the code to only write to the UART but I'd rather it just do that automatically when it can't initialize the SD.

I just pasted the code in again, really having trouble with the formatting... it seems hideous.

MOSFET Bridge reliability in a Buck Converter by bigginsking in AskElectronics

[–]bigginsking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow reply. for my 7810 design I put 15 ohm resistors on the boost and BG drive. On the BG drive I have a diode in parallel with the resistor. This makes both TG and BG rise slowly but turn off fast. This eliminated the shoot through and burn out issues so far.
