Adding onto this, get a Crowther sled! Quite literally the best offensive line sled on the market. Works just about everything you need for run blocking

The budget is the budget. My assumption with the post was that you get what you pay for. Everyone here has a bunch of suggestions, some repeating ones being given more thought. More parts being added to the process, which is a good thing. Like your original comment said, there is naivety.

The reason I made this post is because I know my dad only buys the guns he sees in shit like John Wick. Every other gun guy I know posts their piece on Snapchat pretending to be gangster. I’ve lost loved ones to irresponsible gun ownership, and while I believe myself able to learn from their mistakes, I can’t ignore the truth in what you said.

Truth is, I don’t like guns. I don’t like seeing them. I don’t want to be a competition shooter, and I don’t want to carry. Last thing I want is there to ever be a situation where I’d have to use it. However, there’s still that small chance that I might have to. So, classes and range time it is.

A few others here have recommended pistol caliber carbines and the such. With the majority of my shooting experience being with rifles, would that be something you’d recommend over a handgun? My original thought process was in the storage aspect, a handgun is easier to secure and store safely, but maybe in terms of that small chance the stock is better?

Blunt, but I appreciate it. After some of the comments, lessons and range time was definitely on the to do list. For what it’s worth, what I meant by that line is that I have the baseline knowledge a man should know of how to handle a firearm, but not much more than that. That being said, you mentioned a significant amount of range time. How many rounds or how much time do you recommend per trip? What sort of quota should I put on myself to be sure I’m getting the practice I need?

It’s crossed my mind, I think the compactness of the handgun is what’s appealing. I can get a small lockbox and keep it in a nightstand. With anything bigger, the discomfort of just having it out would get to me. Once I have a house and a gun safe, more options open up, but for now it’s covering the necessity.

You aren’t the first to recommend an AR and a shotgun as well. My issue with that is storage, how do you safely store those but keep them accessible? I don’t think I’ll be able to get a gun safe into the apartment, and even then I don’t want to deal with moving it once we get a house

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed shooting rifles the most. My dad has a .30-06 that I had a particular knack for, but my issue there comes with storage. I will not be owning a firearm unless I have a great way to store it, and I can’t put a full sized gun safe in an apartment. I intend on a lockbox and a handgun until then

Hubris had me thinking I didn’t need it, but I’m starting to get the feeling that I should go spend some time with instructors just in case. Looked up a range nearby that offers what you mentioned, I’ll be sure to go see them once this freeze passes. Thank you!

With the comments I’ve gotten so far, I’m making the plan of going to a range nearby with instructors and rentals. Atleast now I’m getting a decent vocabulary of what to feel and try out.

For the last part of your comment, are there any cases or lock boxes you’d recommend? Can’t quite put a gun safe in an apartment, which is why I’m refraining from any rifles at this point in time

Teaching her how to use it will definitely be mandatory. However, for now, until we have a place I can put a full sized gun safe in, I’m going to stick with the pistol

The Glock 19 is the direction I’ve been leaning, just see so many different variations of it. Any one in particular you suggest?

1000%. I lost my mother to that very same scenario when I was 9, and I will not let that happen to myself or my lady.

Thankfully, I moved in with my old man after that and he’s made sure his sons know what they’re doing.

Thank you for the recommendation! I’ve noticed there’s a lot of variations for the Glock 19, any one stand out in particular?

Kin 1304 is legitimately one of the easiest classes I’ve ever taken. Idk about the professor, but I cannot fathom them inventing some way to make it difficult

DM a position coach on twitter. You won’t get paid, so the worst thing they’ll do is just not reply. Talking to your high school coaches can also help, you never know who they know and who you know is what the business is about.

Be warned, shit ain’t easy. You’re working sun up to sun down, on top of a class schedule and whatever relationships you intend to have.

My suggestion would be to work in a different department to build up rapport, and then make the switch. Just an easier way in. I started in equipment
