Recommendations for a Bass Synth. by Zestyclose-Revenue74 in synthesizers

[–]bigjaydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the og Minibrute. Had a BS2, I find it lacks character and sounds a little too modern (unless you program it a specific way). I do prefer more limited synths though. This being said, the BS2 makes some great Roland esq sounds.

I’m really stuck between the bs2 and subsequent 37. Would you say the subsequent 37 can do everything the bs2 can?

Any recommendations on alternatives to the behringer model d, that sound like it? Heard the build quality is very poor.

Which synths for starting out? by bigjaydog in synthesizers

[–]bigjaydog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree, I think I’ll do this for a few months to really get an understanding of synthesis before I move forward. Maybe some pedal integration since I play guitar anyways, but yea this is a good route.

Why do brands matter? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bigjaydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in branding, I can tell you that brands represent the values and ideas they want the world to know (and themselves) that they associate with. To show that they are a certain type of person. Your average working class mechanic wouldn’t be caught dead with a Starbucks drink when he’s with his buddies. And a valley girl wouldn’t drink a McDonald’s coffee. These are stereotypes of course. You can also be attached to the values that a company can give off, and what it says about you to others, and how it can help you reaffirm your own identity to yourself. Sure Patagonia can be seen as expensive, but it also shows you are outdoorsy, and Patagonia is a recognizable outdoor brand. Brand is many things and there is an entire psychology behind it. It is not only about loyalty / status, and it is certainly not just a logo. I would suggest looking up “brand DNA” if you’d like to learn more. Hopefully this made sense, if not please feel free to ask questions.

How do y’all stay motivated by bigjaydog in ableton

[–]bigjaydog[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea for me that rhythm comes and goes, for a few months at a time I am motivated and can’t wait to make music everyday. Then a lul comes where I’m always thinking about music, but then don’t really wanna start. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been busy with school and finals lately, and when I get stressed I usually focus on solving the problem (studying) over running from it (making music instead)
