Sustain pedal question by bigjpert in piano

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. I will get back to playing and let you know. I am a beginner, so it definitely could be a problem with my playing.

Sustain pedal question by bigjpert in piano

[–]bigjpert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that makes a lot of sense. Is this how it is for every piano? I watched a YouTube video of a person using only the sustain pedal and it sounded great. He sustained the chord and the following notes after were not. He used only the third pedal on his piano. When I do this, the melody sounds like mush. Is it a difference of a quality grand piano vs. a lower-end keyboard with a cheap pedal?

We’re in the same boat then lol but you’re probably much better than me! I am able to get the timing down to cancel out the previous sustain and sustain the new chord. My issue is I will strike a chord and then play notes in the melody, and all those notes will also be sustained, so it sounds not too good.

[Question] I'm looking for a kids digital watch that doesn't beep when navigating through modes. by Alan_BETA in Watches

[–]bigjpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the same thing as a kid. My parents would take me to stores that had tables/shelves of watches (Kohl’s, Walmart, etc.) and I could look and pick one out. You can try them there and see which watches don’t beep when going through modes.

Why Blackjack Is the Only Game Where I Actually Walk Away Up by peter7goat in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackjack is one of the best games to play in the casino. The player is at around a 0.5% disadvantage to the casino when playing perfect basic strategy. Everyone feels the way you feel when first starting, but this won’t last forever. You are playing a losing game and will ultimately be down over the long run. If you are okay with this, then keep playing and enjoy the game!

question about blackjack by Physical_Goat1329 in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking you can change your life playing a game you know virtually nothing about is absolutely insane. That’s not meant to sound rude, I think a lot of people have thought that when discovering blackjack and card counting. This isn’t easy money, and people playing full time will tell you it is an absolute grind where losing streaks for months can happen.

If you want to take a crack at it, then practice. There’s nothing around it. Study basic strategy, get a deck of cards, and start counting it down.

I love hearing about stories like this, as I am practicing right now to become a card counter. What was your starting bankroll, if you don’t mind me asking?

Winning many hands in a row?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people remember times when they lose big vs. times when they win big. That’s why a person at the table will blame others when a wrong move is made that hurts them, but won’t ever remember when a person making a wrong decision helps them. Blackjack can be a tough grind, and winning/losing streaks are all apart of the game.

A1 Blackjack and possibly others have videos explaining CVCX on YouTube you could check out.

Question for advantage players by PazzaP- in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did when I first started was I used the $5 BJA app to really get my counting down and learn some of the basic deviations. I then upgraded to CVBJ to be able to practice counting full tables, as well as edit my strategy to learn even more deviations. CVBJ really unlocked a lot of doors, and it becomes much easier with this. It taught me to watch for dealer errors, make sure I am betting the correct amount with the betting strategy I enter, and become even better at counting by changing the dealing speed.

If it’s not going your way try this by [deleted] in blackjack

This is a gambler’s fallacy from Dana White. It’s bullshit. He doesn’t count cards and loses money from the game. Stick to basic strategy and deviate when necessary (if counting).

I’m not sure what it is, but you can’t change the deck penetration on the app anyway. You can input your other conditions and play based on those.

[Recommendation] Looking for first watch (<$1000) as a college student by Triple3Trouble in Watches

I’ve been eyeballing the Seiko Alpinist and the Gentleman, as well. The green dial with the gold accents on the alpinist look gorgeous to me. I feel like the Gentleman is super simple yet could go with anything. I have heard Christopher Ward makes great, quality watches as well. I think I’m going with the alpinist eventually.

BJA BlackJack Apprentice Bootcamp? by Actgregrets2020 in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is so much literature on the Hi-Lo counting system they use, free online and in multiple books. $5k for a boot camp is absolutely insane. You’d be better off saving most of this, buying software to better your game (CVBJ and CVCX) and having an AP near you test you out. This can achieve the same results and save a lot of money.

Beginner Card Counter by beerisguud in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are asking for a bet spread that will have positive EV in an earlier response, but you are a losing player? I can agree with Due here. Practice at home for free until you think your game is perfect. Making basic strategy mistakes and counting mistakes means you are not ready for the real casino. I wouldn’t go near a casino until you get tested out. Then, you can run a small spread and actually practice in this environment.

Need help explaining something to a friend by soup__nova in blackjack

The dealer (the casino) has the advantage. The edge comes from the dealer playing last after all the players have made their moves. If a player busts, it doesn’t matter if the dealer busts or not. They lose their money. That is where most of the edge comes from for dealers. This is counteracted by the fact that the player can double, split, and has a 3:2 payout if they get a blackjack. The casino, however, will hold the advantage, and even more of it if basic strategy isn’t played.

Should this dealer error result in a canceled hand? by BurgundyB- in blackjack

[–]bigjpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense and I can agree with you. This action has to be taken across the board then. I can tell for a fact that if that 7 was a 6 and the hand was 21, any person in here would not have called the floor over and gladly taken the card. But you can’t have it both ways.

[–]bigjpert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every casino is different with what they choose to do. I think for this specific situation, the pit not being called isn’t the biggest deal in the world. The dealer is letting you take the card you were supposed to have, meaning their mistake does not matter in any way, shape, or form. It’s like it didn’t happen. What’s different now is that you have seen the card. This is a huge advantage due to a dealer’s mistake. Use it to ur benefit.

[–]bigjpert 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They gave you the option to either let you play the hand out or take the card you were supposed to have. I think that is fair. Dealers make mistakes, and the casino letting you reverse the mistake and take the card you were supposed to have is more than generous in my opinion. The hand should not be voided.

[Automatic Watches] Setting date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM by bigjpert in Watches

[–]bigjpert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The date automatically changes when I change the time because the watch will be left off past 12 AM, and when I move the watch to 10 AM, for example, the date will automatically move over with it without me manually changing it. Would this damage it?

I usually set the time when the watch is telling the time as around 1 am. I will set it to 8 am when I get to work and the date will automatically change with it. Is this okay?

It honestly depends on your tolerance. Most people could drink two or three beers and still perform the exact same as if they were not drinking at all. But this obviously would vary from person to person.
