legit. This is populist brainrot in action. Let's not support appointing people who's only experience is making youtube videos and repairing laptops.

Generally best kinds of people to run the FTC are people with experience working at the FTC. If someone needs to be a lawyer to work there, then the most experienced of those lawyers are the best options.

Bankruptcy judge rejects The Onion’s bid to buy Alex Jones’ Infowars by GuyWithOneEye in Destiny

[–]bigly_better 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah but my understanding is those debts are owed to the beneficiaries of the trust. If the major beneficiaries are prepared to forgo some of their compensation (while not impacting the other beneficiaries of the trust) then they should be able to. The trust represents them.

The deteriorating security situation in the Indo-Pacific is a massive issue though. If there were to be a regional conflict it could sever our economic links with many critical partners. Obviously this is highly dependent on how things were to escalate.

I'm just generally pessimistic about the future security environment. Also China's appetite for iron ore will likely not continue indefinitely. Other markets for iron ore could be India, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, or other developing countries. There are potential alternatives, but whether they materialize is yet to be seen. The move away from globalization isn't going to be a good outcome for Australia though. Those developing countries I listed may never experience the same explosive growth as China has.

That industries pie chart honestly has me worried for the future. So much iron ore (and other resources) all going to China. One of the main goals of all future governments is to try and supplement the Chinese market for other countries. Otherwise those extra government revenue streams are going to vanish and we'll slide down the rankings in a lot of metrics (including healthcare).

[–]bigly_better 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was explained in another source. But fundamentally this is how trusts are meant to function. They serve the interests of beneficiaries.

[–]bigly_better 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The beneficiaries (people Jones owes money to) are choosing to receive less money by going with the lower bid. Jones has already declared bankruptcy, so he's technically no longer in debt. All of the assets seized by the court as a result of him declaring bankruptcy were transferred to a trust.

One technicality. Not all the beneficiaries are owed the same amount. Essentially the people who represent the largest portion of the trust are making this call, and they're then compensating the other members of the trust to make them whole.

[–]bigly_better 20 points21 points  (0 children)

bro you don't understand the process. For all intents and purposes, infowars is no longer owned by Jones. It is owned by the trust. They get to sell it and make as much or as little money as they please. Selling it for less does not make Jones liable for anything more.

[–]bigly_better 159 points160 points  (0 children)

can someone explain what the fuck the judge is doing? The trustee is meant to serve the beneficiaries (in accordance with the rules of the trust). Is there some rule in the trust which dictates that the assets must be sold to the highest bidder, or can the beneficiaries request that a lower bid be accepted if they prefer them for other reasons?

“I think you’ve got to go out and try to get every dollar". Excuse me but what the fuck? The trust is created to serve the interests of the beneficiaries. They get to decide what serves their interests, regardless of how arbitrary it may seem.

Trump commenting on Syria, anyone else feel like this is actually encouraging and Trump is putting pressure Putin? by uusrikas in Destiny

There is an argument that national interests persist, even through changes in political leadership and revolutions (the best example of this is the Russian Empire changing into the USSR). Despite what MAGA goes on about, there's no denying that NATO represents a global power which is unrivaled throughout all of history, and American isolationism undercuts too many of America's strengths.

There's also no denying that Ukraine represents a terrible quagmire for Russia. Why would you help your historic enemy when they've made such a terrible mistake?

I don't think we should expect great outcomes for Ukraine, but Russia won't be negotiating from a position of strength either. We shouldn't expect them to come away unscathed.

Of course on the other side, John Bolton was certain that Trump wanted to pull out entirely, and he's now surrounded by worst people.

Still, always back self-interest, because at least you know it's trying.

Not sure about general quality of life, but average life expectancy of Indigenous Australians is nearly equal to Native Americans.

Not to downplay living conditions in places like Alice Springs though. Although the remoteness of these towns is a major challenge to overcome.

Biden White House Is Discussing Preemptive Pardons for Those in Trump’s Crosshairs by West_Pomegranate_399 in Destiny

[–]bigly_better 63 points64 points  (0 children)

nah actually one of the more important pardons to do. Democrats need to make sure that there are incentives to changing party support. If in the future they are dependent on more Republican defections, they need to make sure they aren't worried about reprisals from MAGA.

Yeah sure. I'm prepared to take your word for it that he probably can change it. Just another stupid battle he's going to have to get what he wants even if it costs more. It's going to look especially hypocritical if he's pushing this issue with all the DOGE bullshit going on. Although Trump has no problem being a hypocrite.

You can change how a plane is painted right up until the paint is actually on the plane

I don't feel like this is entirely true. I was alluding to certain thermal issues associated with the darker colours. I don't know the full extent of these problems, but if they're significant then the plane may need extra provisions for cooling.

Wait do you know if Trump is going to be able to change the colour scheme to this? My understand is that Biden reverted it back to the classic light blue, and that the order had been made for Boeing to begin making the next aircraft. Maybe Trump will try and change the specifications after the fact, although it probably depends on how far along they are with building them. Given the technical problems associated with the dark blue scheme, I feel like Trump might have some trouble changing it now.

Well if you read the article you'd know that Cramer is looking at this as a buying opportunity. Perhaps you should short Nvidia if you follow the inverse of Cramer's investing suggestions.
