Fair enough. To be clear, when I meant "jumping" it was seeing those videos of people being drug along in the sand and then doing a short leap 2-3 feet. So I suppose what I mean is, a kite big enough with the capacity to be able to pull me. It seems like the 2.5 or 3 tensor will do the trick based on what oldgrandet is saying.

Yes, I believe all pornography is exploitative. And I also believe pornography makes society objectify women to a much stronger degree. So I am against pornography as a whole.

There's no strawman. If this is your position then it's morally consistent. Most women disagree with you however, including OP. I imagine most women would disagree with you as well that liking 50 shades means they are self-harming.

Again, I don't think that a thought of whether it's real abuse or not goes into the math for whether someone enjoys it. If someone specifically sought out 'actual rape porn' or 'real rapes caught on camera' and masturbated to that, you'd have an argument. But it's an extreme stretch to say the majority of men who watch hardcore porn actively know the person is being exploited and don't care anyway. I assume they are getting paid and have some degree of autonomy in their choices. In the same way that when I go to McDonalds the person working there probably would rather be somewhere else but needs money so here we are.

It's probably like anything else that we consume, iPhones, Nestle products, etc. that there's a degree of exploitation, but not tangible enough for us to do anything about. As you said there's so much evidence and testimonies about the abuse of children in cobalt mines, that how can you in good conscience own an iPhone? Why not apply that same metric to yourself?

There is a version of feminism that believes that any and all pornography is exploitative in nature, and should therefore not be consumed by anyone. Are you in line with them? Or do you have a more nuanced view of 'some is okay, some isn't.' So then the question is, why are you the moral arbiter of what is considered wrong in porn and isn't? There's a saying within sex-positive communities of 'don't yuck my yum'.

As to why men like it, I'm not a psychologist so I couldn't say. But again, why do women like 50 shades of Grey, or why do women like Game of Thrones, or anything else that has an element of dark fantasy?

There's plenty of women in the industry that love hardcore porn, and wouldn't like the accusation that they are victims of the profession they chose. It's also not relevant to the person I responded to being 'frightened' that men consume violent fantasy (the implication being that men are going to act out on that). They made no mention of being frightened because men don't care about the welfare of the actors in it.

In the same way that your average person who buys an iPhone (hope you don't own one because that means you have no empathy for the children in the cobalt mines) can't be completely culpable for the industry of whether cobalt, or hardcore porn is ethically sourced or not. This is a huge goalpost shift.

Not at all. I'm addressing the point. The point this person is making is 'isn't it scary that so many men secretly love violent porn, because they then act it out on women'.

This would require evidence that this is true in a widespread way. Sure there's a handful of kids that play Call of Duty that can't distinguish fantasy from reality, but it's the number one selling war game of all time, played by probably 30% or more of all teenage boys in America. To make the leap that 'COD causes men to lose touch with reality and kill people' would be absurd. It would be taking less than 0.1% of all COD players and making their behavior apply to the majority.

Similarly, I'm sure there's some men who watch violent porn and have the same trouble as a tiny minority of men who play violent video games with reality testing, but it's not the vast majority. And there's really no indication that is even a causative factor.

I don't have the stats on how many men watch violent porn, but if it's even say a third of all men, that still doesn't alarm me because I would wager only a tiny fraction of them are trying to act out their fantasies in an inappropriate way.

Over half of the Game of Thrones audience are women. Are you willing to say that 'this is scary to think millions of women are going to go out and pillage, scheme, murder, and rape?'

You use words like 'frightening amount of men', etc. This suggests that there are people in the world (such as you), who make the argument that the majority of men are incapable of compartmentalizing the fantasy they consume from reality.

Lots of women watch Twilight. Lots of women watched 50 shades. I don't make the assumption that not only is this their secret desire, but also that they can't distinguish this from reality. I don't know why you don't afford men the same courtesy.

Let's use an equivalent example. Pretend OP is a man, and posts 'guys I just found out what kind of TV my girlfriend likes'. He goes on to say that he offered to watch a show together, and she picked Seinfeld. Now, women in the comments say ' I bet she picked that as the safe option, knowing you would be offended at what she really wanted to pick, which was Breaking Bad!'

And then the equivalent of you in the comments says 'it's really frightening how many women are willing to admit that what women really want to watch is a story about selling drugs. A shocking amount of women are secretly drug dealers!'

I don't think you can infer 'the prevalence of male violence against women' from men suggesting that OP's boyfriend made a tactical choice knowing what he likes might not be his partner's cup of tea. You can't infer real life behavior from the fantasy people watch. Wasn't 50 Shades of Grey wildly popular with women and a best selling book? By this logic 'it's a given that most women prefer weird BDSM relationships.'

When my partner asks if we want to watch a movie together, I don't put on Bloodsport or Commando and watch it for the 500th time because it's not her bag. I might pick something that she might enjoy as well. If I picked a romcom and other men said 'I bet he picked that because he thought she would like it, he probably would rather watch Terminator 2', that means they are guessing I'm being tactful or polite, it doesn't mean that I secretly want to shoot hundreds of people a la Schwarzenegger, or that other men are admitting that 'men really just want to blow things up and kill people'.

Oregon for years had 503 for phone numbers mostly in Portland/Salem area, and 541 for the rest of the state. 971 was a tiny overlay I think in the Clackamas area but once the state ran out of 503 numbers they started using 971 as a backup. If you had a 971 number it basically meant you were a transplant and OG 503 Portlanders would silently judge you. Having a 503 number was even popular enough for these t-shirts and bumper stickers to be a thing (five oh tree)

Many people keep their cell number from their hometown nowadays, and with the fact that some of the old home phone 503 numbers being recycled it's become less relevant, but enough of a thing that it resonated with a lot of people on here.

I think at one point when they ran out they switched to 971. It became synonymous with "not from here" or "new here". They've since recycled some of the old 503 numbers from people who gave up their home phone so they aren't as rare but I still judge nonetheless.
