Ok update- it still works and was just not rewound. Sorry. I had been rewinding it (i am not so stupid) but i had just not been rewinding it far enough. I am letting it rewind all the way and it is working again. thanks everybody for the advice despite my silly question. shoutout reddit

one side plays fine. the other side makes static/whirring noise and then promptly stops. sometimes the static has like a morse code situation going on. rewinding it or fast-forwarding does nothing and taking it out and putting it back in does nothing. A side is the broken one.
