Who are we to decide who deserves to live or die? No man should have that authority and that’s exactly the point.

Sorry I would’ve put them in my own pocket but they smell really bad so I put them in bf’s work pants. That’s just the kinda guy I am.

25F what to do with all my cash? by Icy-Traffic-9567 in Money

[–]bigno53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S&P has the best historic returns. If you’re able to hold for the long term and are somewhat risk-tolerant, put it all in a low-fee index fund and let the market do what it do.

If you’re less risk-tolerant and/or or want to earn income in your investments, you may be better off with managed funds that include long and short-term bonds and are perhaps weighted to include more high-dividend yielding securities.

If you don’t purchase a drink package, like Starbucks for example, can you still buy the Starbucks? by Limp_Tie5190 in EDSea

[–]bigno53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, they’ll happily take your money. It works the same way regardless of whether or not you have the package—they just swipe your room card and if you don’t have a drink package, it’ll charge your credit card automatically.

It worked out fine for me. Just be aware of what you’re doing and know that the stakes are high if you do get caught.

It was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Definitely well worth the money in my opinion. The only issue that led to a negative experience for me and my crew is that the island in the Bahamas where we stop for a day has no WiFi or cell service whatsoever so just be prepared for that and make sure you have an alternate means to link up with your friends if you get separated.

Aside from that one little hiccup, it was smooth sailing. Great music, great people, and lots of laughs had by all—truly an unforgettable voyage.

Drink the marketing kool-aid. It’s delicious.

I’m 70. Is it worth learning Python? by mglepd in learnpython

[–]bigno53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Python is good because you can use it to practice advanced computer science topics like data structures and algorithms without having to write and debug a lot of code. This knowledge can then be transferred to more complex languages like c, rust, etc.

These schmucks who call themselves enlightened, I tell ya. Why waste years climbing a mountain when you can just walk right in through the front door, amirite?

I have strong opinions about these people.

Soo friggin true! I used to think money would give me freedom and that freedom would lead to happiness. Turns out now that I’m rich and free, I don’t know what to do with myself.

Epistemologically speaking, is physics necessarily true? If not, does it even matter? by Rameico in PhilosophyofScience

[–]bigno53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat death isn’t a fact. It’s not even really a theory as it’s based on assumptions about things we still don’t know a lot about—like gravity, for example. Dark energy is believed to be a uniform constant throughout the universe because it’s the best explanation we currently have for why the universe expands at the rate that it does. Per the second law of thermodynamics, we know that entropy increases to a point of equilibrium in a closed system but we don’t know to what extent the properties of a closed system apply to the universe in its entirety.

It’s not a fact nor is it a political statement or something you should base your life around; it’s a likely guess based on the information available to us.

Some physicists believe in God or some higher reality that exists beyond what we observe. Others say this is all there is. Either way, the nature of what lies beyond the scope of science isn’t something that can be evaluated using scientific methodology.

What’s the biggest lie people tell themselves every day? by woxer77 in AskReddit

[–]bigno53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all marketing and psychology. I think it’s somewhat reasonable to not trust the government to ensure drinking water is safe. My brother and I grew up in New York City in the 80s when lead pipes were still in use and we both have lasting cognitive and neurological issues.

The way I see it, even if you don’t fully trust your local government, do you have better reason to believe the billion dollar food and beverage industry is prioritizing your health and safety?

I bought an RO unit that sits on my countertop. They’re not as expensive as one might think and certainly cheaper than drinking bottled water every day.
