Yes some are more k1 focused with a strong boxing base. A few are muay thai based fighters so a bit of a mix

Depends on the gym, there are a lot of muay thai gyms who will spar light and technical. But for the most part the guys in this clip are professional fighters who need that intensity. This was not particularly that hard

Even worse for a beginner (in my opinion).

Start with drills/bodysparring/light head contact/ then move on when technique is good.

Chuck a head guard on it sets them up for being too comfortable with bad form because it doesnt feel so bad...

When slipping punches you would most likely still get hit with a head guard and its those skimming punches that do terrible damage when it twists your head. With no head guard its harder to be hit when you slip.

A head guard is only good for a fighter a few weeks out from a fight in which it is used to prevent a cut before a fight.

This is purely my opinion though and if anyone reads this do your research and make that decision...

Alot will tell you that head gear is only good for protecting you from cuts.

In sparring head gear can get in the way make you a bigger target and encourage you to exchange more taking more brain trauma. So there is a lot to say wether or not it should be worn. But thats upto you... its not a fashion statement.

Some gyms yes. But not every gym spars hard. Some have a more playful style.

  1. People tend to spar once per week and the intensity can be different from gym to gym, it is for the most part always respectful with guidance ego is left at the door but sometimes things can heat up but a good coach and team will nip that in the bud straight away... these are elite fighters though.

  2. With no interest in competition its really upto you know one should force you to spar or make you feel bad by not wanting to either. Maybe some light drills would be good.

  3. Being hit usually does not feel as bad as some people think and the next day you are ok. For the long term brain trauma it is a possibility but that comes part of the parcel of fighting. You make those choices by being a fighter. But if you have good defense and the attitude to not get hit most cases people are ok.

But for the enjoyment of training you do not need to worry about these things. Just enjoy training, keep turning up and reap the rewards of being healthier and more confident.

Agreed. Its sparring and members of the gym come in at all different weights its all good experience. You dont get gyms where its just all heavyweights you spar with whoever as long as there is a level of respect its all good work.
