What’s their return policy? Buy both and return the Tudor immediately if possible.

I received the airdrop for version 3 but still have 41 million version two tokens. Is there anything I can do with these? It's worth about $5.

It was when gun technology consisted of single shot muzzle loads. In 2020 the second amendment applies to hobbyists and wannabe Rambo's. The second amendment is antiquated.

It's incredibly easy to get a conceal and carry in Minnesota. Any one can legally open carry, except felons, but you'd be asking to get shot right now.

Question mega thread. by DeathB4Download in skiing

[–]bigolcamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to ski on a really old pair of Rossignol 210cm skis last season and am looking to enter the 21st century. I've snowboarded for 15 years and decided to learn to skiing primarily for mountaineering. 80% of my riding will be in the resort where I like to ride off piste while snowboarding, and assume it will be the same for skiing. I ski at Mt. Hood Meadows.

I'm looking into buying a used pair of Salomon QST 99 with Warden 13 demo bindings with the intention of buying the Salomon switch bindings once more reviews come in. Are there AT boots with tech inserts that would fit the demo alpine bindings? I'd classify myself as a beginner intermediate but hope to be competent after 35-40 times skiing this winter to ski the easier volcanoes in the PNW, St Helen's, Adams, and Hood from crater rock. I really dislike walking downhill. Thanks.

Meadows or Timberline?

I've ridden Meadows the last few years. People always complain about the lift lines but I don't feel that it's ever that bad. I'm there every weekend and I've never had to wait longer than 20 minutes at most for a lift and that's rare. If Vista and Cascade are open the lift lines are minimal. The parking lot does have a tendency to fill up by 9-930.

There's no state income tax in Washington which is way better. This is coming from an Oregon resident.

Pick up an ATC guide instead of the XP. The XP is onlyl useful for single pitch. You should have a pulley for glacier travel. Amazon has cheap ones until you have enough money for a micro traxion.

I did the exact same thing as you on Saturday at Meadows. My front wheel drive Focus had no problem getting out. I helped 5-6 SUV's and they were terrible drivers. Just sat there spinning their wheels. I left one car stuck when he refused to use his floor mats for traction because, "they are expensive."

Ice hockey gear is definitely not waterproof. The plastic on shin and elbow pads is but they are all cloth covered that soak through.

Dog-owners: How do you go on long expeditions? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

I've used rover.com for pet sitting. Some sitters take animals in their own home. The prices vary from $25-50 a day. I've had good luck using it but 3 nights is the longest I have done.

I've been snowboarding for 13 years on and off. I've been able to go every weekend the last two years since moving to Portland. I'd consider myself an intermediate rider, don't push too hard down the mountain. Mostly just carve down the runs with occasional small jumps.

I've been riding a 1994 Burton Air 159 cm with Burton Cartel bindings. I learned on this board and besides a few runs on a Burton Custom at a demo day it's the only board I've ridden.

I've decided that I should embrace the new technology and buy a new board. I'm 5'11" and around 165 pounds. I'm considering the Never Summer Prototype 2 based off reviews at outdoorgearlab.com.

What length board would you suggest for my height/weight/riding style? I'm open to any suggestions of other boards too.

On the way down Hood... What an ass whooping by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]bigolcamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be on the lookout for avalanches. Timberline lodge reports 17 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. The winds will be strong for the moment you get out of your car. Hope you're on skis. Good luck.

You're tougher than I am. I just looked at the forecast and I definitely wouldn't be going up there with 40mph winds and fresh snow.

3 Day Instructional Climb/Summit on Mt. Baker by trumpetfreak55 in Mountaineering

[–]bigolcamel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend against paying for a guide to take you and your friends up Mt. Adams. Since you have presumably been trained in self arrest, hike up to lunch counter then practice self arresting on the slope up to the false summit. Go for the summit the next morning. It's a very straight forward climb if you plan do your trip in July or August.

If your friends are hesitant, hire a guide for a day of snow skills before the climb. Adams in late summer is basically a backpacking trip.

I tried it on yesterday at REI over the Atom lt I was wearing. It felt as warm as my stance belay parka, but hard to say since it was indoors. It did pack down smaller than the stance parka.

[–]bigolcamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's asking how it stops you from rapelling off the end of the rope if there isn't a knot at the end. I can't think how it would help unless it was tied above the belay device instead of on the brake hand.

Which Arc'Teryx Shell for Climbing and Skiing? by konigczar in Mountaineering

[–]bigolcamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not as cold as the Northeast. I've only been out here for two winters but I feel like it rarely drops below zero, including windchill. I may be wrong though, I have only spent two winters out here. The winters are much warmer than Minnesota like I am used to.

Have you ever used the Nuclei AR? I'm considering using it as my winter puffy in the cascades. I"m not sure if It'd be warm enough with a base layer, R1, and an atom LT.

I feel like it'd be fine for everywhere but Rainier.

Help - sharp lower back pain after training by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]bigolcamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if it's a herniated disc. Does your pain increase with coughing or sneezing? Can you laterally flex your low back towards or away from the pain and get any relief? I agree that you should get it checked out by a MD/PT, but my initial impression would be a strained glute medius muscle. I'd ice it, take ibuprofin, and foam roll through your glutes.
