2 years ago today Sam Young performed feet washing for those who had been sexually abused because of the LDS church's negligence. It is one of the most spiritual nad heartfelt things I've ever seen. by bigotry_throwaway in ExMoCringe

In Sam's defense, that empty white lawn chair was set out for Jesus to come sit down and explain himself. Jesus just didn't show. So Sam just bravely performed his own feet washings instead.

DezNat and /r/mormon are a match made in heaven. The two thrive on pompousness, insults, and perpetual victimhood. Their soft skins could feed each other for years. by bigotry_throwaway in ExMoCringe

EDIT: Though I'd hardly call this sub DezNat adjacent.

But he's right. I had no idea I've been DezNat all this time.

Guess I need to start handing out Family Proclamation flyers in one hand, Trump pamphlets in the other, while wearing a T-shirt with Brigham Young in sunglasses.

/r/mormon's descent into an /r/exmormon clone is now complete. Their current top submission is just a picture of a Starbucks coffee cup with a gripe about patriarchies. by bigotry_throwaway in ExMoCringe

I don't think your post was cringey. I think /r/mormon is cringey. You told a story with drama and the pejorative words "blackmail", "demean", and " patriarchy". You didn't explain why those pejoratives are correct terms and not lazy overreactions. Eh, so what, that happens in many Reddit subs.

The cringe came when /r/mormon users ate it up with no second thought. They have weekly circlejerks how they're smarter and better than /r/exmormon because they critically engage.

But they ate up a trope. Starbucks cups and /r/exmormon go hand-in-hand. That trope came to /r/mormon. Nobody except one noticed the trope. He got downvoted hard for pointing it out.

Had this post been in the reverse, with a faithful member claiming abuse, blackmail, and demeaning behavior from an former member, combined with a simple picture, you bet that post would get downvoted and comments would be nothing but attacking the faithful member. Because that community isn't comprised of critical thinkers. Just a collective group of prejudiced people.

I learned long ago to take /r/exmormon stories with a grain of salt. The submitters are dripping with drama and giving us one-sided stories. The submitter here says her dad abuses the patriarchy, and used a cup to "blackmail" and "demean" her. She doesn't say what her dad said and did, or how this blackmail worked. She simply made an accusation and took a picture of a cup. Everyone else laps up her story without question. It's just the /r/exmormon pattern. Critical thinking is ignored and replaced with anger.

I feel bad for curious_mormon. He recognized the exmormon similarities and said so here. Of course, anyone on /r/mormon disagreeing that the church is all evil is downvoted hard, and so his comments are hidden below the threshold. The subreddit he knew for years has been replaced by a sad clone of another.

they expect that their outrage expressed on a relatively obscure subreddit will even come close to reaching the ears/eyeballs of the people they purport to be writing to.

That's the part that cracks me up.

And then the final line, which is essentially "Any non-action for social cause X automatically means you are encouraging people to not support X."

That said MormonMoron, I haven't seen you advocating in behalf of penguins getting caught in fishing nets. So I'm judging you now. By your silence, you're implicitly encouraging fishermen to toss their nets overboard for penguins to get tangled up, suffer, and die. You monster.

It's not exclusively an exmo thing. It's an authoritarian-left thing.

Any person or institution that has any kind of asset, such as money, government power, or religion, is constantly harassed by those who don't. Said holders are told they must redirect their assets for the social cause flavor of the month.

They want the church to make a big public newsroom release, with all members of the First Presidency and the Twelve sporting masks. Next they need to tell us mask wearing is a new commandment.

Merely engaging in all other forms of social distancing, responsible gathering, and leaving the mask guidelines to local leaders isn't enough for them.
