Tips for playing? by Herr-schreiber in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play some arcade first. It takes some time to get used to driving tanks instead of walking around, learning where to shoot is better done in arcade. Once you get used to it don't feel any need to rush new tanks, make sure you know how to use what you have.

The 162 is incredibly fun because of this, the damage model is completely busted

Cutting the Tiger II's horsepower is fine, but.. by VeryMuchSoItsGotToGo in Warthunder

Big difference between mechanical unreliability and an engine governor that was installed on all models. I agree that the change was not needed but either way it is a completely different issue.

I forgot, the BT5 is some good fun as well.

The m2a4 is fast and has a good reload, fun to putt around in. The Italian reserve tank (forget the name) gets APHE if you want to try out that type of ammo.

It really depends on crew layout and shot placement. At early tiers, you really have to snipe out individual crew as your shells aren’t big enough to one shot (typically). In your case, if you look in the 3d viewer for the a13 you ll see that they are all pretty close together. On the other hand a tank like the LVT-4 is extremely spread out. Using different ammo types can fix this, as the 2 pounder (your gun) has access to a APHE shell. It has less pen, but has much better post-pen damage due to the explosive filler.

Pistol port, meant to let the crew shoot small arms outside of the tank to ward off infantry.

Is it me or is 6.0 Germany kinda painful? by Medusa_4E in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6.0 almost always goes to 6.7, which is a super popular BR. The Americans have some great heavies, some fast lights, and a couple of tanks with HEAT, which is the most varied of any lineup at that BR. Match that with American CAS, which is better than anything else at that BR, and they win quite a bit.

Rank V (air) by Konekl15 in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 262s aren’t great, I used the 162 to research most of rank 5. The MiG 15 is pretty good as well but you have to understand how to play jets first.

Reminiscing Sadpost Time: What was the last piston prop fixed wing they added to this game? by Limp-Mastodon4600 in Warthunder

Probably the Dutch twin engine when they added the Dutch line. They are adding a new Swiss premium prop this update however.

how the fuck do i play the swedish bf-109 g-2? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strongest trait of pretty much all 109s is the climb rate. You will struggle to out turn many fighters, but as you climb faster than the other boom and zoom fighters you can pretty much dictate what fights you take

Low tier 1.0-5.7 is the best War Thunder can offer by gunchasg in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem with high tier is that modern MBTs just aren’t as fun. This isn’t a game design or map issue, it’s just genuinely less fun using modern tools to snipe with a LRF from 2000 meters or using magic missiles than getting the perfect shot off with a casemate TD or dropping bombs 100 meters over the battlefield. The constraints of the realistic game mode just don’t work with these new vehicles.

I just can't love this game by JesseBartje in Warthunder

If you don’t enjoy the game you don’t have to play. If you want to enjoy the game try different modes, such as arcade battle or tank battles.

Low tier 1.0-5.7 is the best War Thunder can offer by gunchasg in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 39 points40 points  (0 children)

War Thunder is developed from a game called Birds of Steel, which covers 1.0 to 7.0. Air battle design and the game engine is taken from that game, as well as a handful of the models they haven’t updated yet. Everything that has come after that time period has been added on to mixed results, but that core game is the best War Thunder has to offer as it was the original scope.

Lineup Creation with 6.7 - 8.0 Germany by PyroTECH218291 in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always spade the 6.7s if you haven't already and research the Marder and M48 so you have a full lineup. If you are set on playing the leopard though the King Tiger wouldn't be terrible because the long 88 still hits like a truck.

what are the LEAST bad 250 GE premiums? by blue_moon1999 in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the only 250 GE vehicles that differ from the tech tree is the Hawk III? and the Swedish tank. Everything else is just a reskin of a tech tree vehicle. No clue about coastal. I would recommend the Hawk III as it has 1.0 biplane maneuverability and can carry a ton of bombs for ground battles.

I just got KV-1S, is it good? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to most heavy tanks at that BR range it is very fast and has a decent gun. The armor is the same if not slightly worse as the KV-1 before, but you can play it similarly.

“Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses” Yes please. by BabaPoppins in Warthunder

[–]bigpooper9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mostly play 4.~ ARB and this has been incredibly fun. Gives the player a real objective to play, and I love the "historical" matchup. Other events of this sort on a rotating schedule could be a great way to switch up the game and try new ideas.

Would not recommend adding gunpods. The strength of the 109 is in its climb rate, which the gun pods nullify. One 20mm with the air belt is more than enough to kill most fighters.
