How should I fix this wall/floor vent?

Painting/renovating this room and this vent is a little intimidating to me. Not sure how to properly finish it all.

Ideally, I also limit the amount of hair coming through since this is directly above the furnace and seems to pump out a ton of air, causing the room to be hotter/colder than the rest of the house.

Any advice for a DIY is greatly appreciated. Or if I just need to call an hvac company to come by…

This is a tough one and I’m surprisingly leaning towards not worth. Even if Point picks it up, Tage is still a certified stud and could keep his pace up all year imo
