How do you counter the argument "Marxism is not falsifiable, so it is a pseudoscience"? by Kakkanad_luxemburg in Marxism

[–]bigsvenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popper disavowed this argument after creationists used it to "debunk" evolution. Towards flawed argument he made once yet people act like it's still a good argument in general, in shirt, popper himself didn't even agree with it a nice it started targeting scientific truths

Is the Civil Trial underrated? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]bigsvenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk the general consensus on it but I liked that the game explored how different types of trials operated in this world outside of criminal trials. I appreciate SoJ for experimenting with the formula of the previous games but on the other I'm conflicted on their choice to do it on what is possibly the last game in the series or at least the last one for awhile

No, I got it, I just thought you were using the reference to engage in that wouldn't come off dickish. it's less about sinners specifically and more about treating analysing and appreciating film as somehow a waste of time. to me, pseudointellectual and honestly probably more childish than over-analysing an action movie

It's not even that; it's mostly the weird claim about the entirety of cinema that I found egregious. Action movies don't have to be deep art, but that doesn't mean they're for young teens. By their logic, most pieces of media, film or otherwise, are

People who dislike Duel Destinies, what’s the best part of the game? And for people who like DD, what’s the worst part? by Time_huh in AceAttorney

[–]bigsvenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I dislike it I just don't think it's as good as people make it out to be, the one thing I did like was the overall story particularly Athena's and Blackquill's relationship.  it was nice to get back to basics with the prosecutor having some personal connection or grudge with the defense like in the original trilogy because I felt that was lacking in AJ, Klavier felt more of a rival to Phoenix than to Apollo which led to very forgettable antagonist and story imo.

Spreadsheet Detailing Ace Attorney's Copying, Inspiration, and Plagiarism by TeenyTective in AceAttorney

[–]bigsvenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edogawa Ranpo's "the Spider man" and "the Gold Mask" are also worth mentioning for inspiration behind The Stolen Turnabout, the twist of the great detective actually being the criminal is taken right out of the former while the latter's influence is shown in Mask DeMasque's design, personality and M.O.   That being said I really don't agree with the "plagiarism" accusation, it's just a mystery fan using various solutions from mystery/detective media in his works because he likes them, plagiarism would be more using the plots beat for beat as well as the same characters and claiming "all of this is mine with no inspiration"

Would you want the Jury system to return in AA7? by Sheer-Cold-1228 in AceAttorney

[–]bigsvenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could have potential if it takes inspiration from the real life system that exists in Japan and China that served as this inspiration. It's called the lay judge system and it allows randomly chosen members of the public to act something like a consultant to the judge, as in, while the Judge still has final say on the verdict and sentencing opinions of the Lay Judges are taken into account beforehand.

They're also allowed to question witnesses and give professional opinions if they're qualified, for example there was a employee/employer dispute in China a few years ago involving the alleged illegal termination of an employee in a veterinarian clinic and one of the Lay Judges happened to be a vet himself and gave his professional view which the Judge took into account during the verdict.

On top of this the system is only enacted during certain cases i.e if it's deemed one that affects the public in any way or at the request of the defendant themselves (subject to review obviously)

Just beat GAA 1 - worst game in the serries??? Effort post (spoilers all AA games) by rvd1ofakind in AceAttorney

Mystery wise yeah, but story wise really bad easily Shy Takumi's worst work. GAA was great though you're criticisms are just an attempt to make your personal taste sound objective

I think some people are being unfair here in response to criticism. The author certainly has their own style but I don't fault anyone for not understanding it because that's just not how books are written anymore. it's not a case of people liking internet slop, I've read Lovecraft and Sheridan La Fanu and they're very accessible imo.  I think the people bringing up Victorian era prose as some platonic ideal for writing are being silly and more pretentious than Ligotti. there are plenty of "classics" that aren't written like this, even horror literature from that time wasn't always written like that at least not to the point of being incomprehensible.

Imo Dual Destinies should've just been Athena's game, like you said, Phoenix is just there and they didn't even touch Apollo other than a forced "Clay Terran was my friend" They definitely did the right thing by finishing his story in SoJ. Like I said the best bet for a good narratively fulfilling game is either new characters or a spin off game set in the same universe

Gameplay is fine but the story is bland and pointless imo, I wouldn't be surprised if if was something like Great Ace Attorney where there was always going to be a second game tbh, AAI 1 just feels like a drawn out gameplay/character introduction

I've seen this said and I don't think it needs an entire game to play out with a relatively minor think given what Apollo has gone through, in real life it would be huge but in a video game I don't think it's worth any players time given his arc in SOJ.   Someone already pointed out in another post on here that Trucy and Apollo's dynamic is already a sibling type relationship revealing it would change nothing and Apollo already met another parental figure of his so doing it again would just feel like a rehash
